BAD Company Ethic: Email Newsletters & Spam

spam emailSo, here I sit. I am wondering how in the hell my email address was added to all these company’s email lists. I like emails, when they come from a human; someone with a heartbeat, that can type – not an automated system.

I have been unsubscribing to everything from blogger newsletters (I am adding back the subscriptions on a separate email address), to misc. ‘here’s our daily sale, please pass it on’ (Which, BTW: If I wanted to look for a sale, I will come to you. Do NOT shove your sales in my throat).… but the ones that annoy the fire out of me are things from:

  • Random iPhone applications (which I don’t HAVE an iPhone, but if you want to send me one, feel free to email me. Otherwise, don’t email me about an application unless you are sending me the phone.
  • Purse, makeup, day planners, calendars – you name it, these people have added me to their ‘hey, let’s annoy her’ list.
  • Beds, bedding, baby furniture, shoes, clothing.. I can keep going.

I have worked with a lot of the companies that I am getting these newsletters from, but please be nice – ASK before you add me to your mass email list. This is not only rude, but .. well.. rude. I don’t really have another word to describe it.

If you want to email someone, be generous – email directly; from a human – not a computer/automated system. This is one sure way to piss off a person, a mother, a woman – let alone a blogger that will vent this frustration.

Bad, bad company no-no.

I so agree with this! If I want updates from a company, I will sign up for their newsletter. I don’t care to be added without my permission and don’t read those emails anyway.

It’s like the new style of telemarketing that’s out there, I guess it costs them less money. What I can’t stand more than anything is when I get a telemarketing call and it isn’t even a actual human on the other line, it’s just an automated message. Seriously??? Does anyone actually fall for it?

Amen! There was one company, or whatever that sent 4 newsletters to me…all at the same time. Every time I’d unsubscribe I’d get another one. Very annoying!

It’s funny you mention this – I was JUST wondering about this yesterday. I am all of a sudden on the mailing lists of companies I have worked with! A few are even companies I contacted, but never heard back from, yet I was added to their newsletter? That is tacky. I, too, would prefer they ask before just putting me on their list – I don’t like that at all!
