Donating items again from BlogHer. Again!

How do  you recycle? Some of you may remember me from BlogHer 2009 in Chicago, IL. Last year, I drove from my home to Chicago, Illinois in my minivan. Why? Well, it was cost justifiable for the location, as well as I love Chicago, so I decided to take it upon myself to work with BlogHer last year to take all the extra swag that was leftover in the hotel rooms, as well as within the expo center. Why, you ask? Well, since I drove last year, I had the opportunity to offer some help to the hotel, as well as the staff at BlogHer to take any unwanted swag with me and on my route home, I was able to donate many things to 3 daycare facility, a friend that was financially struggling with  as well as two churches in Iowa that were very grateful for all that was donated to them. I wish I could find the pictures that I took of my van that day. I am still looking, but it was a lot of things that were left outside my hotel room ranging from baby formula, diapers, clothing and toys.

Well, this year, while I didn’t drive to BlogHer in NYC, I am taking that same approach to donate things that we can use, but other facilities can use more; Example: Flash Drives. I received a good number of Flash Drives from other bloggers, as well as companies with their product information on them. This was a fantastic opportunity for me to take this in full swing and we are in the process of still unpacking and taking a look at the Flash Drives, pulling information off of them (adding in files on our home server), and formatting the flash drives so that we can donate them to our local school so the teachers to use for their home work and so that students can use them for their homework and misc. class needs. I know what it’s like for teachers to have to buy their own school supplies. Every little bit helps and the school is already thankful!

This is about 5 out of a good 50 or more, from this year, that we are working on to format to donate to the school.

If you are a company out there that would like to donate some flash drives to our local school, I would love to talk with you! This is a great opportunity to get your name out there, as well as help our local schools, teachers and students.

This is a fabulous thing you are doing, too many of these things end up in the trash or sitting in someone’s drawer being wasted.
    You are wonderful!!
