We have a few friends and family members that are expecting. Giving baby gifts can get expensive and you may end up getting something(s) that mom really won’t use or doesn’t need. I am a huge fan of gift baskets with newborn needs because face it, any new mom would love to get things that they can actually use and that they know you, as a mother, have used before and may recommend for a first time mom. I wanted to show you what I recently made for a local friend’s upcoming arrival.
- Basket or bucket
- Rubber bands
- Size 1 diapers (you can use newborn, but size 1 will be better since no one knows the actual weight of baby, so you maybe wasting newborn dipes)
- Travel size baby needs (lotion, powers, shampoo, diaper cream, etc.)
For the basket, I reused a super cute wicker basket that I received as part of a bridesmaids gift. It was perfect for the baby girl that I’m making this basket for.
Both of my baby girls had similar baby socks, so I thought it was fitting to add some to this princess.
You’re going to take the diapers and roll each one and wrap with a rubber band. These will be used for the outside of the basket.
When you roll the diapers, you’ll set them around the basket and position them how you like.
Once you cover the outside of the basket, you’ll take another rubber band to hold them all in place.
Once they were in place, I covered the rubber band with pink ribbon.
Since the basket is deep, I added in a few rolled diapers to raise the contents, and fanned over some unrolled diapers as a filler.
I added in some local finds that I found like the Cloud B Sleep Sheep, added in some Rayovac batteries for it, sample of formula that I got in the mail, adorable local handmade football team onesie, teething toys, baby care items like a brush, comb, etc.
Once I filled the basket, I took the baby shampoo and powder and slipped them inside the rubber band, under the ribbon.
I am pretty happy with the finished result!
This entire baby gift basket probably cost me $20.00 total and everything inside, the mommy to be can use. I am pretty happy with it! What do you think? Have you made a baby shower gift basket before? If you have a photo or a blog post, I’d love to see it!
