Are you looking for a fun and tasty treat for your little goblins for Halloween? We found something that is not only yummy, but FUN and the kids can all get involved.
We made Spooky Spiders and we ate them! Yuck – we ate spiders? These creatures were so fun, so cute and so good!
California Raisins has come up with this healthy Halloween treat that I want to share with you all. Whip up some Spiders this weekend!
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups California raisins
- 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
- 4 cups (1 pound) powdered sugar
- Powdered sugar; chopped nuts and/or chocolate sprinkles
- Licorice laces or whips, and small candies
In large bowl, beat butter, corn syrup, salt and vanilla together until creamy. Mix in raisins and nuts. Sift in powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, until mixture thickens. Turn onto board and sprinkle with remaining powdered sugar; knead by hand adding powdered sugar, as needed, to make stiff dough. Shape into 1-inch balls. Roll in powdered sugar, finely chopped walnuts or chocolate sprinkles. Cut licorice whips into 2-inch lenghts and shape into legs. Arrange four legs on two sides of each ball. Place on wax paper-lined tray. Top with small candies for eyes. Chill until firm.
Preparation: 45 min.
Chilling: 30 min.
What I loved about making these is that yes, they were fun to make, but I love (as a parent) knowing that everything in these are yummy, my kids love them and knowing they have new and inventive ways to eat raisins.
This full recipe makes about 40 spiders. We made a small batch last weekend, but we also have plenty leftover from our ingredients to make some treats for our Halloween Party this weekend. This is, for sure, a party treat that you will not be copied on at any party. You can substitute just about any of the ingredients if you have picky or allergies.
