We are right in the middle of cold and flu season. Here in the Midwest, we get hit with it hard! I have done pretty good this winter at keeping the germs away, but we can’t keep everything clean and safe from creating cooties that cause colds. When we buy OTC cold medicines at our local pharmacy and grocery stores, the kids prefer to choose by flavor, however as a parent, I choose by the symptoms that the kids have, as well as factoring in flavor for the kids and ingredients. My 5 year old prefers chewable tablets and my 7 year old has no preference if it’s chewable or liquid. At times, there is a need for an all in one type of cold medicine, however there are other times where we don’t need a ‘cure for all’.
The Little Remedies® children’s wellness brand has partnered with well-known blogger and mom of two, Colleen Padilla of ClassyMommy.com, to offer up her tried and true tips for keeping families, and especially kids, healthy through the winter months.
- Scrub-a-dub-dub: Make sure to wash hands frequently and encourage kids to follow suit by putting out fun, kid-friendly soap dispensers. This is a simple way to stop spreading germs.
- Crowd control: Make sure your child’s friends aren’t sick when they get together to play and vice versa – you don’t want your child to get their friends sick, either.
- Cover up: Remember to cover your mouth when you cough – and suggest to your little ones that they sneeze or cough into their forearm or elbow so as not to get germs on their hands.
- Bundle up: Before heading out, make sure that everyone is dressed to stay warm against the cold weather.
- Disinfect your world: Clean high traffic surfaces in your house regularly to rid them of germs.
Little Remedies® understands it isn’t always possible to keep your little ones from getting sick, but when they do, they should be your only concern. The Little Remedies® products follow the philosophy of “less is more” while providing parents with effective products to support the health and well-being of their child. Little Remedies® products contain only what is needed to make your child feel better – no saccharin, alcohol, artificial flavors, artificial coloring, dyes or harmful preservatives.
How do you help prevent germs during the flu & cold season? I cannot begin to tell you how much sanitizer we go through in our home, at hubby’s work and on the go. We have a gallon pump sanitizer that stays in the kitchen so we can see it and remember to use it. We’ve done pretty darn good at staying healthy this winter… that is, up until the last month when we shared a cold with everyone in the house. We are on the mend, thank goodness!
In our medicine cabinet, we have several Little Remedies brand products that we use when the kids get the sniffles or a cold. As a parent, I like that Little Remedies uses the “Less is More” approach in their products, using as few ingredients as possible and keeping them free of alcohol, artificial dyes, or artificial colors. We have never really thought about all the ingredients in cold medicines, up until recently, when we compared labels. While we used to focus more on the ‘all in one’ cure, we like that Little Remedies has something for everything: noses, fevers, colds, tummies and more. In our medicine cabinet, we currently have saline for the noses, honey pops for sore throats & cough, and some cough medicine. They have a lot more, but we like that the prices are affordable/reasonable, as well as different flavors and something for just about any symptom. Little Remedies has Honey Elixir and Acetaminophen products.
Little Remedies® For Colds™ Honey Elixir is a natural alternative to traditional cough syrup products. Honey Elixir is made with great tasting honey to soothe coughs and sore throats naturally.* The product, safe for toddlers 12 months or older, includes no artificial flavors or colors, no saccharin, alcohol, dyes or gluten.
Little Remedies® For Fevers™ Infant Fever/Pain Reliever is one of the only brand name fever reducers for infants that is currently on the market. Caregivers can trust that it will reduce fevers and relieve minor aches and pains all with no artificial flavors or colors; no alcohol, saccharin or gluten. Little Remedies® For Fevers™ is the solution parents can feel good about giving to their children.
