My family eats a lot of meals with cheese (we love Lasagna!) and the kids love to have cheese & crackers for snacks, as well as I cannot tell you how much milk we go through in a given week!
I am here to share with you some meal prep & savings from the Midwest Dairy Council to help you with your holiday cooking.
The moms who work and live on Midwest dairy farms, like Jonna Schutte of Monona, Iowa are working with the MDC to share tips for delicious, nutrient-rich, money-smart holiday meals.
Here are a few menu and entertaining tips from America’s dairy farm moms:
- To save money, buy cheese in block form and slice or cube it yourself. Or use holiday cookie cutters to create festive shapes, and save the scraps for casseroles.
- Expecting overnight company? Serve a berry breakfast smoothie instead of empty-calorie gourmet pastries to maximize nutrition without breaking the bank.
- Plain, low-fat yogurt makes a great, calcium-rich base for holiday dips! Buy yogurt by the quart and save, then flavor with dry ranch seasoning or soup mixes and serve with veggies.
- Remember to serve milk with every meal, not just holiday cookies. At about 25 cents a glass, it packs a lot of nutrients for the money.

I like ANY kind of cheese! It is definitely one of my favorite foods.
I almost ALWAYS buy products made by Roberts Dairy, purchased at Hy-Vee or Fareway, my two favorite stores. We buy lots of lowfat small curd cottage cheese, their “Sassy Salsa” dip is yummy too! Two summers ago we bought a Smoothie Maker and our 16-year-old daughter has lots of friends and LOVES to make smoothies for everybody with yogurt. We are definitely a 3-a-day family!

My fave dairy is milk and fave snack that I like to make is carrot cake.

My favorite dairy is Mayfield’s Dairy. It’s a southern dairy that supplies products for my inlaws’ area in Eastern Tennesee. Where my husband and I live, we don’t have Mayfields, so it is a treat to enjoy their products when we visit relatives. There is just something extra rich and creamy about their ice cream products and their chocolate milk. Very delicious. It’s probably a good thing the Mayfield’s does not sell their products where I live (I’d be about 1,200 lbs by now…). macd82 at gmail dot com

I would have to say cream cheese. We eat the lite version on rye toast, english muffins, french toast etc. I like to flavor my own with herbs and spices or fruit. Take a chunk of cream cheese and cover it with shrimp in cocktail sauce, chutney, salsa or even jam and you get an instant appetizer. Love the stuff! Great giveaway, thanks!
