When we moved in to our 1900 home almost 3 years ago, I knew I had my work cut out for me with updating it. I have turned in to quite the do it yourselfer. Doing updates to any home, regardless of the age of the home, it can get very costly, however there are so many things that you can do to cut those costs. One thing that I have learned about is Mocaic tiling. I just tiled one of my kitchen walls with glass mosaic tile. I really wanted to tile my bathroom, but I was exhausted just from the kitchen adventures. Dali Decals has a new product called Modern Mosaics.
Modern Mosaics are wall decals that simulate the look of real tile. Dhttp://dalidecals.com/ali Decals is the only company offering this. It is an ingenious product that is cost effective in comparison to actual tile installation. It is extremely authentic looking, very convenient and easy to install. It’s perfect for those want tiled rooms but can’t afford it or don’t know how to install. Dali Decals offers plenty of stock designs and colors as well as customization options for specific needs. They also have an adhesive that can withstand weather conditions for outdoors and anything that may be encountered in a kitchen or bathroom.
Modern Mosaics are a new, innovative way to decorate your space! Just think, now you can have tile on virtually any wall imaginable, but without the mess, hassle and most importantly, the expense of real tile! Modern Mosaics look real, and are available in a variety of pre-designed colors!
Modern Mosaics come four feet wide (48″) and up to 16 ft (192″) tall. All you have to do is tell them how long you want your sheet to be and how many sheets you would like. Just select your color combination and material and you’re good to go…it’s that easy!
There are several colors schemes available.
The color scheme that I chose was Mint Chocolate Chip. In our bathroom, we have an old blue tile on the vanity and I am just not ready to rip it all out yet and replace with a new vanity, so I’ve been looking around for a solution. Dali Decals had just what I was looking for and the price is very reasonable!
Here’s our old bathroom before. Gotta love the old floral wallpaper to flow along with the lovely blue tile.
When we first moved in this house, 3 years ago, I painted over the wallpaper with a light tan color. The walls in our home are a combination of plaster, OLD wood and sheetrock, so painting over the wallpaper was the better option.
First off, I took off the ancient mirror cabinet and the light. About two years ago, we had some fun monster decals on the wall. When I took them off for this project, they pulled the paint off the wall. With those open spots, I touched them up with leftover paint, as well as where the old mirror used to hang. I cannot begin to count how many layers of wallpaper are on this wall. The smartest thing I did was to simply paint over and not fight with stripping them off.
When I first received my Dali Decals Modern Mosaics, I wasn’t too thrilled that it had some bends in it, but they did level out to where you can’t really see them once on the wall.
Thankfully the area where I was going to hang a new mirror and light covered up the dents. I took measurements of my bathroom wall, then I opened the Modern Mosaics on my kitchen floor, turned it over and on the back, I used a pen to measure off where I needed to trim it to fit the wall.
I peeled off part of the top corner & top, then made sure it was level with the rest of the wall and corners, then I got under the mosaic sheet and started to pull the backing off.
I haven’t put up a light yet in the bathroom. OK, so I haven’t found one that I like yet, but I am still looking. Here is my bathroom after.
I picked the Mint Chocolate Chip color because I felt it would go pretty well with the horrible blue tile that is in there now. The colors were a little different than I had expected, but overall, my bathroom transition is totally different, more modern and I like it a lot! Since I took this picture, I have added a stretch of fabric that is about 10 yards long and was leftover from my dining room curtains, so the cost of the new bathroom curtains was $0.00.
With as tiny as the downstairs bath is, I finally like this space. Dali Decals did help us give this small space a makeover without a lot of work. At first, I was frustrated because it had a few kinks in the paper itself, but once I got it up, they were easily removed. Once I get a light up, this small space will be complete. I decided to leave the opposite walls the lighter tan until I can decide what I want to do next. I may paint them white, or I may paint them the same chocolate brown that is in the curtain and the wall mosaic. Until then, I am quite happy with the ease of use for the wall mosaic!
