Speech Recognition Software: Dragon Naturally Speaking *Love It!*

NuanceLogoColorI love computers. I love my blog. I love my readers that come to read my site, and the companies that I work with. With this said, I type a lot. A. Lot. While my hands aren’t always free to physically type, I always have thoughts running in my head, so I still have things to say. Imagine that.

I have been working with a software now for a few months and I am more than excited. I am more than impressed: Dragon Naturally Speaking. I have to say ‘what an amazing software it is! There are so many times when I have a baby on one side and not enough hands to type with. Dragon Naturally Speaking is a great and fun software to help us bloggers (or anyone!) get done.. what we need to get done!

What is Dragon Naturally Speaking? Here is a short video to show you what this amazing software is capable of (and so much more!)

Dragon gives PC users the power to create documents, reports and emails three times faster than most people type – with up to 99% accuracy – by simply using speech recognition instead of typing. Dragon takes complete control of your computer without you ever needing to touch it with your hands, giving you the opportunity to surf the Web by voice, send emails, Instant Message, dictate and edit in Microsoft Word and Excel, Corel WordPerfect, and so much more in most other Windows-based applications. You can create voice commands to quickly insert blocks of texts or images — such as your name, title, and signature for emails. Even when you are away from your PC, you can dictate into a handheld device, or use a Bluetooth microphone for the same great dictation results without the wires.

This product has been proven as the perfect solution for people who have physical impairments with their hands or arms, those who struggle with a wide variety of learning disabilities, or just those people (especially parents!) who are just incredibly busy juggling their home, social lives, children and work. By being able to use Dragon to completely control your computer, you are now able to juggle tasks never thought possible – send emails or surf the Web while writing notes or cooking dinner. Children are able to get ahead in their homework, with the ease of using a computer that maybe used to slow them down. Wouldn’t everyone like something that would not only make their lives run smoother, but would also help their children too?

I had a couple of issues getting it installed and using it at first, but the support team is more than amazing! Come to find out, the headset mic that I currently had wasn’t strong enough to pick up my words to type for me. Well, guess what? Now Dragon naturally Speaking comes with a headset mic so no more issues! I am very excited to see that they started packaging the software with a mic!

My advice is to make sure you have set aside at least an hour or more to sit down, learn the software and get started with the set up. Once you get the software installed and go through the voice recognition set up, this is where the fun begins. It is fun setting up, but it is really neat watching the software IN action! I love to use this in the kitchen. What? Well, if I have a thought or want to send an email, start writing a review or something simple as to making a grocery list while I am getting dinner ready, I can easily start up Dragon Naturally Speaking and do all of those things – hands free!

What does this software mean to me? Dragon naturally Speaking is a dream come true. Seriously!

So sorry to introduce a cynical note but the customer service of
Nuance has always been something of a very bad joke and remains as such. However the 10.1 product is outstanding. The microphone that is supplied is only marginal and it is almost imperative to get a truly professional microphone such as “the boom” for about $100. I hope you find this somewhat helpful. I use Dragon to dictate this with almost 100% accuracy.

Now that is something I would definitely look into getting because of the fact that some days my fatigue is too great to even lift my arms to type and on other days, the pain is unbearable >.<
Thank you so much for sharing!!

    Tanya,
I’ve been using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for a couple of years and I can also testify that the productivity of dragon is outstanding. With the introduction of version 9 we didn’t have to train the software to recognize your voice and simply dictate the information directly into the applications that you want to, and now that Nuance has released version 10 [10.1 for 64-bit] the program seems to be working much better.

I believe mainly because of the 64-bit operating systems can utilize more system memory, thus it has more resources to analyze the voice and translate what’s being intended. I’ve been utilizing Dragon NaturallySpeaking for almost 2 years for my blog, but I’ve been using it at my work for about six years.

I can highly recommend Dragon NaturallySpeaking for individuals who do tech support or that have to generate large amounts of documentation is a regular basis.

    I enjoyed your article.

    Thanks,
