Dude. Do you doodie?

Back up.

Sparked from doodie post 1 (I flung dog poop) and doodie post 2 (Doodie sign in place), I wanted to show you all, just to let you know that I am not imagining things.

If you had neighbors that allowed your dog to crap in other people’s yard, what do you do? Common courtesy – pick it up, shoo your dog in your own yard, but then again, if your own dog poops in YOUR yard, do you leave it, or do you pick it up? It is your own yard. Why pick it up? Oh. My. God. If pictures are worth a thousand words, then these are worth three million. This is NOT  my yard. This is my view from my dining room window – to the neighbor’s poopy filled yard. Yes we have snow. I admit poop will freeze so the stench will not be as bad, but COME ON!!! Spring will eventually be here (we hope, anyway) and the snow will melt, yards will be mowed, weather will be warmer, windows will be opening, right?

Keep in mind: this is JUST one portion of their yard. I fear what the other side and front of their yard look like. Can we say disgusting?

I have a letter ready to present to the City Hall. Yeah – 1755 words. WORDS. Two pages. I cannot wait to meet with them.

It’s not just the look, the smell.. its HEALTH hazards.

Taken from a sector of my proposal:

Here are a few reasons why a ‘Pick up after your pet’ law should be enforced:

  • Disrespectful: This is just plain rude. How would you like to walk out of your own home and step in piles of poo every where you turned around? This might not be so much of an issue if it was MY dog, in my own yard, but I don’t have dogs. I do have a cat that uses a litter box – how would it feel if I were to take my cat’s litter box over to their yard and pour all my cat’s feces where they can see? Maybe even in plain sight, just as their dogs come use my lawn as a toilet. I have respect for my home. I have respect for your home. Please respect my property.
  • Stench in the neighborhood: Not only should you be making sure your dog is picked up after, it is sanitary and nice to the surrounding neighbors to pick up after your dog, in your own yard. I bring this up because the stench of a neighbor’s yard is so horrific that we are not even able to open our own windows, in our own home. Almost makes us feel like a prisoner in our own home. Also, who likes to walk down the street and experience this smell?
  • Unsanitary & harmful: Taken from the City of Wichita’s city laws: Dog dung in public areas is unsightly, unsanitary and unsafe. There are several diseases which can be spread from dog waste including Giardiasis, Hookworm and Salmonellosis. Other less common diseases which can be spread from dog waste are Toxocariasis, Q Fever, Lung Fluke Disease, Leishmaniasis, dog tapeworm and broad tapeworm. Organisms causing these diseases move from the dog waste into the environment. They can be carried by flies and other insects, wind and dust, or balls and toys that come into contact with dog “dirt”. The germs can be ingested by people and begin to grow in the body, where infection continues to spread. There are other hazards to leaving dog droppings behind. Injuries could result from slipping on a dog’s mess. The entire community will benefit when dog waste is picked up and disposed of properly. Now, my question to you is, do you want your kids playing in a yard filled with Salmonellosis or how about if your toddler were to put their hand up to their mouth with a fist full of hookworm? Sounds delicious and healthy, doesn’t it? The thought of these things coming in to contact with my children is extremely frightening. While we cannot protect our kids in bubbles, although that would be amazing!, we are not able to do so, so we have to do whatever we can to keep our property, our town and our homes clean from anything that we can, especially when we are able to PREVENT something like this.

Overall – be nice, be respectful to your neighbors – pick up after your pet or I will dump my entire kitty litter box on your front door steps. M’kay?

Oh my goodness. I’m sorry you have such disrespectful neighbors. In our town there are laws to where the people can be fined if they don’t clean up after their animals, whether it be in their yard or if it happens somewhere else. Glad you are going to City Hall about this.

How disgusting is this? These kind of people should be reported to the health dept. and to the city AND should lose their animals. When the snow melts and it warms up, the smell is going to be disgusting. Wonder what the “inside” of the house looks like….ugh

I know I can’t believe how much they are getting away with. Ames has some pretty strict laws about it.
