I have been experimenting with new recipes lately. I love Potatoes Au Gratin, so I thought I would mess around with some ingredients. Here is what I came up with.
What I used:
- 5 russet potatoes, washed & sliced in half
- salt and pepper to taste
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 12 oz can of Nestle Carnation Evaporated Milk
- ½ cup milk
- 1 8 oz block of mild cheddar cheese
- Velveeta block cheese (I used about 2 inches cube of the block, cut in small cubes)
What I did:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- Chop/slice potatoes & cheese (I used a food processor to slice potatoes & shred cheese), set aside

- Get at least a 2 quart baking dish & put in sliced or chopped potatoes

- In a saucepan, mix together salt, pepper, butter, flour, milk, Carnation milk & Velveeta cheese, melt over medium heat.

- Stir constantly to avoid clumping, until mixture has thickened. Once thick, stir in shredded cheese.
- Put shredded or chopped potatoes in baking dish, pour mixture over potatoes. When all is in baking dish, mix all together.

- Cover with foil & bake for 1 hour, or until desired.

I added the Carnation Milk in it to add a nice richness to the potatoes. Tasty!
