Homemade Potatoes Au Gratin

I have been experimenting with new recipes lately. I love Potatoes Au Gratin, so I thought I would mess around with some ingredients. Here is what I came up with.

What I used:

  • 5 russet potatoes, washed & sliced in half
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 12 oz can of Nestle Carnation Evaporated Milk
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 8 oz block of mild cheddar cheese
  • Velveeta block cheese (I used about 2 inches cube of the block, cut in small cubes)

What I did:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Chop/slice potatoes & cheese (I used a food processor to slice potatoes & shred cheese), set aside

  3. Get at least a 2 quart baking dish & put in sliced or chopped potatoes

  4. In a saucepan, mix together salt, pepper, butter, flour, milk, Carnation milk & Velveeta cheese, melt over medium heat.

  5. Stir constantly to avoid clumping, until mixture has thickened. Once thick, stir in shredded cheese.
  6. Put shredded or chopped potatoes in baking dish, pour mixture over potatoes. When all is in baking dish, mix all together.

  7. Cover with foil & bake for 1 hour, or until desired.

I added the Carnation Milk in it to add a nice richness to the potatoes. Tasty!
