What to get dad? How about the HP MediaSmart Server LX195?

untitled1Those that know me know that I take a lot of pictures and videos. When I say a lot.. I say that lightly. I take a LOT! I have backed them up on DVD’s, CD’s, flash drives, external hard drives – you name it, I have tried it. I have thought about getting a server to host my pictures, videos, music and even my website, but the prices I have seen kind of scared me. Well, not only that, but the set up didn’t appeal to me either. I recently came across a server from HP that I am very excited about; not only on the price affordability aspect, but the space is wowza amazing! Yes, I said it – wowza.

Do you have a lot of pictures of your loved ones? How about videos? Music for your MP3?  I can go on and on and on! How would you like to be able to save these things from your house, or while on the go?Think of all the photos and songs you’ve collected over the years –what if your hard drive crashed and you lost all of it? The MediaSmart Server LX195 acts as a digital safe, offering storage and protection for all your digital treasures including photos, songs and videos.

The HP MediaSmart Server LX195 automatically backs up, stores and accesses content from all Macs and PCs on your home network and lets Dad remotely stream music and photos to his computer, keeping him connected to his digital media no matter where in the world he may be. What? From all computer PC’s and Mac’s? What? I have done some research on the HP MediaSmart Server LX195 and I am utterly giddy (yes, I said it) about this machine! I love technology and to know that a piece of technology can actually help?

You can’t imagine how much this would help us in our everyday life. We rely significantly on our computer every day of the year. We are always in fear of a computer crash due to to0 many photos and other folder/files being stored on it, and the photos stored on discs is a hindrance and slows down the work we do. Because of that, one thing the HP MediaSmart Server LX195 would do for us is store in one place all of the photos we need access to in once place and without the worry of to much stored and causing a crash since it holds up to 168,000 photos. My computer is my source of income because I work from home due to a visual impairment that occurred in my 20′s. I also travel back and forth 1500 miles every six weeks to see an eye specialist for treatment. Yet another reason we could use one of these devices something fierce. I use my computer for contact with the specialist, to plan the trips to get the care and to have a laptop with me to handle everything when I am away from home. So the features of accessing our media4 anywhere with an Internet-connected computer, Stream music and photos to any computer, while at home or away, Publishing photos to photo-sharing and social networking Web sites—Snapfish, Flickr, Picasa, and even Facebook6—via any Internet-connected computer, or share directly from our server and the Easy setup, scheduling, and support are things that would be so valuable to us.

We need this so badly. Thanks for the chance to win one. Most of our money is wrapped up in getting me the medical care I need, and the trips to get the treatment are also supported through our local Lions Club and other donations.

In answering your question, all the above is how this would help us in our everyday lives. Sorry it’s so long.

This would help our family so much and especially my husband since he is usually the one who takes care of all of the backing up, phots, etc. This product would streamline things so much for us and simplify our life. I love that this can store up to 168,000 photos, 147,000 songs or 405 hours of video. Having that much storage storage capacity in one place would be a Godsend, and would simplify our lives greatly. Currently we have photos all over the place, music stored on CDs, records, cassettes and a laptop and videos scattered and stored away. Having a machine with this storage capability would allow us (the hubby and me) to condense all the treasured mementos, that make up our lives, into one place. Fabulous.

Having a media server would be a great way to centralize everything, as we have a ton of music and photos and videos (thanks to a very creative 10-year-old!) Our current computer does not have enough space to hold everything, so we have a variety of burned CDs/DVDs, memory sticks and external hard drives to back everything up. Our Vista computer also tends to crash a lot, so it worries me that our files will get corrupted or lost somehow. It would be so convenient to have everything in one spot, separate from the main computer.

This would definitely simplify my life by cleaning up the clutter near our computer!!! We have cd’s, dvd’s, memory cards, etc. all storing digital media at the moment. This would allow it all to be stored in one place! No more clutter! Also, the digital media that isn’t on the cd’s, dvd’s, memory cards, etc. are sitting on our computer hard drive and are in danger of being lost if ever we had a virus or computer crash. This would alleviate those concerns too. Awesome.

I would love to get this for hubby for father’s day. I was actually just thinking about needing something like this the other day because we have never backed up our computer before. We just downloaded all of our CD’s on it and then got rid of the actual disks at a rummage sale so now we are worried about losing all that music. Thanks for the chance at a great gift.

Ok, I have researching these things for so long. I need to back up my entire computer. I really do, I know this. I am tired of researching-there is so much info out there, it’s impossible to sort it all out! This would be a godsend because I wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore! I like that it’s automatic-sounds like you set it up once & it does the rest. Very important! Plus the ability to access your entire computer from anywhere on the ‘net is AWESOME! As for my dad, I don’t know…I’m sure he would be happy that I could back everything up! LOL thanks!

This sounds like it would be a great addition to our home network. One of the problems that we are having is that some photos are on my husband’s laptop, and some are on ours. We end up with disorganized photos and music and unnecessary multiple copies that take up extra memory. I love the idea that we could access the server when we are traveling. It sounds like a great way to download and protect your vacation photos while you are still on vacation. Send them home to the server, and if you lose your memory card or your computer is damaged, you still have the photos!

I would really enjoy a server. Being a high school basketball coach, I film all our games as well as some other games from teams throughout our league for scouting. These videos get quite big and have forced me to get 2 external harddrives to handle all the videos. I see this as eliminating some of my hardware and giving me enough storage place for my media.

We have computers all over the house. We regularly have 3 of them plus another connecting the XBOX to the internet) and I would love to route them all through a server instead of through my computer. This would speed up my system and help protect us all from viruses and Trojans. I don’t think my kids are as careful about keeping their anti-malware up to date and my husband hates to do it because he is used to having a server at work that takes care of it for him. With our home network, I’d feel a lot safer with a server and it would be a lot easier to file share than what we have now.

I can tell you how WHS has made things easier for me. I setup my PC to automagically copy all my photos, music, videos, and documents to my WHS on a daily basis while I’m not around. Now, when I’m away from home, all I have to do is access my WHS over the internet and voila – I can listen to my own music, upload new photos or view old ones, or retrieve documents that I’ve left behind. It’s wonderful. Heck, I’ve even given my daughter a login so she can upload photos of the grandchildren directly to my server for me to enjoy… no more waiting for a visit to see the pix. I love it!

The HP MediaSmart Server LX195 will help me save all my kids tv shows in a centralized location. That way, they can watch their recorded shows, videos, music, etc.. throughout the house, and leave the big TV to Daddy to watch whatever he can. There’s only so much Hannah Montana a Dad can take, okay? Great site!

  196. 5

Well, I’m the dad, and this would definitely help me keep our family videos and photos organized and available for my wife and my two boys. It would also be a great place to keep my ripped DVDs (I can’t tell you how many DVDs have ended up in the trash after my boys’ got ahold of them!) and then my boys can watch them from their Media Center! One last thing – when I’m deployed to another base (I’m in the Air Force), it would be great to log into the WHS and upload pictures and videos of me for my sons to see!
