I travel quite a bit. While I love my regular HP laptop that I bought myself for Christmas last year, it does weigh quite a bit and it would be nice to have a smaller size and more lightweight option to travel with. With my blog conferences and personal travel, I always take my laptop so that I can take notes during my events, as well as work while I am traveling with my family. All work. All play, right?
Recently, I had a chance to work with HP to review their adorable HP Mini 110 by Studio Tord Boontje. This little bad boy is not only precious and cute as can be, but it is so lightweight and was so functional to me and the events that I traveled to all last week. I have to say that I truly appreciate this temporary review from HP. I am a techy ‘geek’ that loves checking out the newest technology, so I was flattered when I was asked to check it out and give my thoughts on.
I don’t care to carry around a laptop bag, but I do carry around a purse. Last week, I traveled from Chicago to Dallas, Dallas to Ohio, then Ohio to Omaha. Busy! One big mistake I made on Sunday before leaving for Dallas, was I realized I forgot my laptop charger in my car – in Chicago. I was already in Dallas when I realized this. Ugh! Well, I was gone from Sunday through Thursday night and guess what? I had two batteries with me; fully charged and BOTH (yes, I said both) let me go through 2 conferences for 4 days. I was shocked, to say the least!

The HP Mini Tord comes in this adorable grey case.

To compare the HP Mini Tord with my regular/full size laptop, I took some comparison pictures.

Mom’s thoughts
- The HP Mini 110 by Studio Tord Boontje is adorable, cute & so fun to look at!
- The Mini is lightweight: PERFECT for traveling with!
- For what I need the Mini for, the HP Mini 110 by Studio Tord Boontje met all of my needs. I like to travel without having to travel with a laptop bag. There is room in my purse, or diaper bag, for the HP Mini 110
- There isn’t too much software ‘included’ on the Tord, but what I need it for, it is perfect! When I am at conferences, all I need is Word or even Wordpad to take my notes.
- There is a web cam on the Tord that is very fun, functional and hey – it works! It isn’t the best quality, but so far, better than most web cams I have seen out there that are addons to any computer.
- The price runs right around $399, but ranges up when you add on software and accessories. In my opinion, well worth it, if you travel a lot. If you are at home all the time, this probably isn’t the computer for you.
- I was really excited to see and try out Windows 7. It is different than my current windows, but I really liked the new organization of the platform.
- Space: If you use your computer a LOT, I recommend an external hard drive or a flash drive (which I had to keep my traveling conference files on) Works like a charm and you don’t have to worry with taking up the space on the Tord.
- During my conferences last week, I was easily able to connect to my Wi-Fi, open Twitter and tweet so easily and fast while in the meetings, as well as have a seperate page open for my website to moderate comments, check emails and do whatever else I needed to do. I was very happy with the overall speed and performance of the Mini. Very!

I had thought about getting one of these, but after reading some of these reviews, I agreed with your assessment – it is perfect for you if you travel a lot, but I don’t, so I stuck with one of the HP larger sized laptops. This does look like a terrific machine that if we do begin to travel again, I WILL be getting!
Thanks for you thorough review, it is actually the best I’ve read so far.

That is awesome! I have been wanting to get a netbook and that definitely catches my eye!

I’m glad to see this review. With Christmas fast approaching, and two boys wanting lap tops (one who is in the military and one who is doing extra high school credits from home after school) I’m trying to find something practical, economical, and of high quality. Your review has helped. T/You for the post.

That’s really cool! I need to put that on my Christmas list now. I do stay home a lot, but that’d be awesome for sitting on the couch and surfing the web, or for when I’m stuck in the dr’s office for the 30 minutes after my allergy shots every week. As our youngest gets older, we will be traveling more too. I hate coming home to 300 e-mails from having no connection while we’re gone. Now to go ask Santa.
