    Johannah B says:

I am confused, all I see is entires with tweet, and shares… and nothing about the housecleaning services.
Ok.. well, I have had my house cleaned for years – mostly by a professional service. I just love the idea that the dusting, vacuuming, floor washing and bathrooms are done for me. I still have to pick up, clean up, etc. in between but I still love the feeling after it’s been cleaned and knowing dust and dirt aren’t accumulation somewhere. I have a large house, so prices for same are high and I have thought of saving lots of dollars by doing it myself, and then my brain just says “NOT”….. I am really spoiled by it.
Some services seem better than another, but they cost more too. I have changed because of many reasons – most times because they increase the price way too high – sadly I think they do it because they think you won’t change now that you are used to their service and liking it, but I changed everything when the price was increased over what we had agreed.

Yes, i have considered using a service. I would expect them to dust, wash, vacuum, organize, mop, and sanitize. In my free time I would REST. I would use them @ least once a week. My pay scale would be somewhere between 8 and 10 dollars an hour. I would provide lunch and tips. I would love to make my own cleaning schedule, vs. someone else telling the service how to clean MY house. At 10 dollars an hour, I would probably be paying $80 a day plus tips and lunch! :-)

    Deborah Rosen says:

    1. I’ve never considered using a service. I have, in the past, hired housekeepers, but never thru a service.
    2. I would expect a housekeeper to dust, vacuum rugs, mop floors, wipe down counters, cabinets and appliances, scrub the bathroom and vacuum soft furniture and baseboards regularly. I would also expect a housekeeper to periodically focus on one room, cleaning light fixtures, dusting walls, cleaning inside closets and other tasks as required.
    3. When I had a housekeeper, I didn’t have free time; I worked. If I had a housekeeper now, I’d use the time to relax and enjoy life more.
    4. When I lived in a condo, I had a housekeeper once every other week. When I lived in a house, I had a housekeeper twice a week.
    5. In today’s market, I’d expect to pay an hourly fee of $10/hour/person, no matter if it was light, medium or heavy work. I expect to provide lunch, on my time.
    6. I would not pay someone to clean my home according to what someone else decided was to be done. I would expect someone who worked for me, be it an individual or service, to clean as directed (I know that sounds snotty, but it isn’t. I’m polite and outline my expectations in a respectful and businesslike manner. If someone can’t or won’t be able to work as I like, s/he’s free to decline the job).
    7. At this point in time, if I hired a housekeeper or service, I would expect my house to be kept clean and sparkling: kitchens and bathrooms totally cleaned, the rest of the house dusted, polished, vacuumed and whatever. I have a small house, no children at home and R and I are neat and clean, and I do deep cleaning on a regular basis, so we’d be an easy job. I’d expect to pay about $60/visit.

Have you ever thought about using a maid/house cleaning service? I always thought it would be nice, but never looked into because of cost.
What would you expect out of a maid/house cleaning service? To do a deep cleaning (not necessarily the clutter)
If you could have a maid/house cleaning service, what would you use your free time to do? Spend time with my family
How often would you, or do you currently, use a maid/house cleaning service? Maybe once a month for a deep cleaning/do not currently use
What would you expect to pay for different services (light, medium, deep)? I really have no idea how much it would cost
Would you be interested in building your own service for what you’d like to be done vs. standard what is set to be done? Building own service because I don’t necessarily need things done such as vacuuming.
If you said yes to #6, what would you most like to have done & what price point would you be looking at? A good deep cleaning of the bathroom and kitchen, not sure about price as I’ve never looked at the cost of hiring a maid

I have a cleaning service that I have used in the past and just had come by to do some deep cleaning to my Bedroom and the Bathrooms. She wasn’t able to stay as long as I neeeded her as she was already booked but she is comeing back to finish the other rooms.
I would use the free time in the future to go and get a massage to feel truly pampered.
I’d use the service once a month, at least.
I’d pay $20 per hour as that is whwt she charges and I have paid her that in the past. I’m planning on moving and am going to pay her to help me pack. She charges different fees for that kind of thing, a little less.
I’d have her get rid of dust everywhere because I’m allergic to it. Since she isn’t with a service I can trust her and I can have her do what ever I wish and have her leave the things I’m capable of doing myself.
If I had a service I would feel like I had to watch them all of the time the first few times. I know that serrvices are bonded but after something is gone often if it is small you don’t notice right away and some things are irreplaceable. Once they are gone they are gone. Money doesn’t replace it so having a bonded and insured service doesn’t always fix the problem.
    I’d pay the same price.

How often would you, or do you currently, use a maid/house cleaning service? * If I did probably once a week.
What would you expect to pay for different services (light, medium, deep)? * Light = $25 Medium = $50 Deep = $100
Would you be interested in building your own service for what you’d like to be done vs. standard what is set to be done? * Yes I would
If you said yes to #6, what would you most like to have done & what price point would you be looking at. * Skirting boards, oven, shower glass and $15 an item

1.we are currently using a maid/house cleaning service
2.i expect the toilets to be cleaned adn scrubbed, the shower to be clean from soap scum and mildew, the carpets to be vacuumed and the floors swept.
3.i don’t really have excess free time since we have to clean before the maids arrive anyways.
4.we started out biweekly, now it’s once a month
5.i didn’t realize there were different types of services, but i suppose $20 diffferences between each level
6.i do ask them to pay particular attention to the bathrooms.
7.the toilets, sinks and baths/showers to be scrubbed clean and disinfected. i expect that of a typical service so i wouldn’t pay more.

    1. Yes, but I cannot afford it. If I was to use one, it would probably be once a year where I can have them do a thorough house cleaning.
    2. Echoing the above, I would want a top to bottom, thorough house cleaning, but I wouldn’t expect any of my personal items to be touched, organized, etc. I would ensure that those items were taken care of prior to their arrival. I would also appreciate carpet cleaning.
    3. I would probably just go out and enjoy some ME time… shop, spa, etc.
    4. If I could afford it, weekly. Since this is real life, once a year.
    5. I’d pay up to $300 for a whole house cleaning, negotiable dependent upon carpet cleaning prices.
    6. Yes, If I could build a plan on what I needed, that would be ideal.
    7. All hard surfaces sanitized, floors cleaned, carpets cleaned, I think up to $500 for all I would be happy.

    1. Yes I have thought of using the professional services ( wished I could use one) but we cant afford it, at least not on a regular basis, so in the past I have hired a cleaning woman to come every other week just to do some light catch-up cleaning (things that I couldn’t get to during the week -when I worked) she usually worked about 4-5 hrs but we had to cut that expense out after I was permanently laid off. (I miss it too)
    2. I would expect the person to have their own supplies and to do the cleaning the way I’d advise them & and I would want to be able to tell that it was cleaned and see the difference,
    3. I would probably use my free time to go on the computer, only I wouldnt feel guilty because I was neglecting doing the regular cleaning while being online, and I doubt I would leave my house if a cleaning person were here, I’d rather be home while someone I dont know well is cleaning & also in case there are questions about something
    4. In the past I had someone come every other Saturday for 4-5 hrs, presently no-one is doing it but me  But if I could afford it I would have light/regular service at least once every other week for about 4-6 hrs and maybe deep cleaning service every 6 months, (shampoo carpets, wash walls)
    5. As far as payment for cleaning services- I paid $10/hr for light -med cleaning, but if professionals were used I’d expect it would cost at least $15-$18 or more per hr for light-med cleaning, and extra deep cleaning work like washing windows/walls will cost few dollars more, but not really sure
    6. I would prefer to outline what cleaning chores I expect to be done, although I would accept recommendations on what is standard too and would expect that I get what I paid for, so if I wanted furniture moved for vacuuming then I would expect it done that way, no cheating on cleaning
7.I would like to have light/regular service but it should include things like stove & refrigerator cleaned inside & out every week & oven once a month, vacuuming done with furniture moved, floors mopped, bathroom thoroughly cleaned, dusting done in all rooms and I consider these to be light/regular cleaning tasks so to me deep cleaning would be more like window washing or walls washed.

I haven’t used a service before, but because of health reasons I would really love to have some help. I would really like a service to come in weekly to help with chores that I find more difficult, like vacuuming and washing the floors. Of course, money is an issue, so I’d be willing to do the lighter housework to help out with the cost. I’d expect whoever came in to be professional and to do a good job. I would expect to pay about $50 weekly.

I used a maid service in the first few months after I had baby #2. I didn’t feel they were doing a thorough enough cleaning, for the price I was paying. I also felt they were kind of a nuisance because they would show up at different times and they would sometimes mess up my baby’s naptime. If I were working outside the home, I would definitely use a maid service just for the convenience. I don’t use one now because I’m a SAHM.

Have you ever thought about using a maid/house cleaning service? I am so OCD when it comes to cleaning our house that if I don’t do it myself then I almost feel like I am having an anxiety attack….I no that sounds so lame.
What would you expect out of a maid/house cleaning service? I would expect the cleaning service to make our house spotless not necessarily organizing it, but getting down on their hands and knees and making sure that the tubs, toilets, floors are clean of debris and look great. The house smell fresh. I would mostly be looking for the house to be clean and germ free.
If you could have a maid/house cleaning service, what would you use your free time to do? I would be worrying to much about what was going on at home…but if I really was able to relax I would go and have some me time at a massage parlor or get my hair and nails done.
How often would you, or do you currently, use a maid/house cleaning service? I would do it monthly.
What would you expect to pay for different services (light, medium, deep)? Deep clean $175???
Would you be interested in building your own service for what you’d like to be done vs. standard what is set to be done? I would prefer to build my services, because some things I would just have to do myself.
If you said yes to #6, what would you most like to have done & what price point would you be looking at. I would like our bathrooms and kitchen to have a deep scrub and also get our carpets cleaned (I know a different service).

    1. I have thought of using a maid service but then I get leery of having a stranger cleaning my house.
    2. Honesty, dependability, good work ethics, personality, and the ability to stay on task.
    3. work out, shop, be more involved with the school, rest
    4. I wish I could have the service at least once a week. With 3 toddlers I need all the help I can get.
    5. Good question! If I could I would pay 10-15 per hour depending on what they were doing each visit. Once a year I would love to have a deep cleaning and of course would expect to pay more for that.
    6. I would like to build my own service. There are some things I just prefer to do myself.
    7. windows, walls, dusting, bathrooms, vacuuming & mopping. Pricing … Windows and walls would be included in a deep clean once a year I would pay 15-18 per hour. If done twice a year I would look at maybe 13-15 per hour. The others are basic cleans I would expect every week and I would bay 12-14 per hour.

    1. Yes – I have thought about it and I actually do use a cleaning service- I am actually thinking of increasing the frequency that they come
    2. I expect my home to be really clean when I get home!
    3. I spend my free time relaxing at home after woking all day – cleaning is the last thing I want to do
    4. I currently have a cleaning service once a month – would love it if I could afford them to come twice a month
    5. I currently pay less than $100 per visit -
    6. My service actually has 3 choices, light, regular and deep cleaning – I use the regular cleaning once each month and every fourth month i get what is considered a deep detail cleaning. Using these types seems to cover my needs
    7. i pay less than $100 for my regular clean and approx $250 for my detail cleaning -

If I used a service I would lay around and read while watching the cleaners!! 4. I would use say twice a month. 5. I know that different areas of home may need more attention than others but if this is just a cleaning service I expect flat rate. If it were regular maid service I would arrange for a cleaning service to do HARD cleaning. 6. I would love a ala carte type option or package cleaning deal. 7. I would like a service that offered say block cleaning…4 hours for say $60 for heavy cleaning. Light cleaning say for 4 hour block would be $40. Thank you @amymariesantee :yahoo:

    3. I would use my free time to volunteer at J’s school.
    4. Maybe once a month? (I really don’t know)
    5. I have no idea – maybe $50 for one hour of light (this is why I think we couldn’t afford it! LOL!)
    6. Maybe!
    7. I don’t know what I would do – but I probably wouldn’t pay more than $25 a month for maid services. (I am cheap, I know.)

    1. I may have absentmindedly daydreamed about it in the past.
    2. I would expect them to be professional, to do a thorough job and to be trustworthy (i.e., I’m not afraid if they have to work in another part of my place than I am in and can’t be supervising them.)
    3. Spend my free time investing in myself.
    4. Maybe once a month?
    5. I have no idea. More than I could afford. I generally see maid services as something that would be nice but it’s out of my price range.
    6. Definitely! Maybe I have certain chores that I prefer done a certain way or I only need a few things done so if I could pick and choose what was important to me then it would be helpful.
    7. Price point I have no idea but I’d probably like vacuuming done for sure, deep cleaning of the kitchen, things like that.

    2. Expectations? For things to be clean! Bathrooms cleaned, House dusted, vacuumed, kitchen counters clean…Oh, I forgot the floors & windows!!!
    3. I’d read! Since I do the 9-5 (Ok, 7-4) thing, the weekends are all I’ve got. Rarely does any cleaning get done (for any of my stuff), other than laundry.
    4. I’d love to have someone come in weekly, but since I’m broke, that’s total fantasy right now.
    5. If I could throw laundry into the normal routine, sure! Except I don’t need strangers handling my chones…So I guess the regular routine would work!

I actually worked for Merry Maids at one time. The cleaning strategy is good, but just like another service, it is dependent upon which worker you are assigned. Cindy H says:

I actually used to be a professional house cleaner, when I was 18-23 I cleaned houses for a living.

    1. Yes, I have thought about using a service many times, but money and thoughts of them not doing a good job have stopped me from doing so.
My parents own rental units and I have hired a couple people to clean before and have ALWAYS had to go over their work and do it right.

    2. What I expect: I expect a cleaning service to be professional, use all clean rags and towels, bring supplies, to use different rags for kitchen, bath, floors, counter tops (you would think this is a given…but it’s not) Some people would be horrified to know that some will use the same rag they cleaned your tub with on your kitchen counters…gross. I expect for fixtures to be left shiny, fingerprints to be wiped off fridge, handles, ect. I expect them to not forget the little things, wiping off tops of switch plates, around doorknobs, leaving things fresh.

    3. If I had a service I would use my free time to spend with my son.

4, I would probs use a service 1-2 times a month, or as needed. (before having company, party, ect.)

    5. Pay….hhmm…not too sure about this one, haven’t used a service in a long time. About 12-15 and hour, depending on what I was going to have them do.

    6. I would like to, but there are so many services out there already, competition would be hard, especially with the economy the way it is. People want cheap.
oh…wait, maybe i misunderstood that question. Build your own service, as in pick the things I’d like done by a service in my home? Yes! I would definitely want to have a list of the things I want done.

    7. Important to me is everything looking polished, fixtures, shower doors, floors. I want it to smell clean.

    Thanks!
