splash_logoLast year, I heard about a product called My Plate-Mate and how it can help little ones learn to feed themselves. Now that Kambry is old enough and loves feeding herself, I had to give My Plate-Mate a try.

Is My Plate-Mate dishwasher safe?
Yes! At home we recommend washing your My Plate-Mate on the top rack of the dishwasher. However, our product can withstand water temperatures up to 185 degrees in order to adhere to health and safety regulations followed at state licensed facilities.

What do I think about My Plate-Mate?
I really love it, from a parent’s standpoint. I love how Kambry eats with her My Plate-Mate. We have some round plates that we found locally and the My Plate-Mate works perfectly on them! I did put ours on the top rack of the dishwasher and ours got a bit too hot and did bend out of wack just a little, but it easily molded back in to its original shape. I love LOVE the My Plate-Mate! I recomend it for anyone that has kids!

Another comment on the product… it would also be nice to see them offer smaller ones that would fit 4-6 inch diameter bowls so we could use them when the kids are eating things like cereal, soup, applesauce or pudding.

Not only is this perfect for the little ones, I have a friend with a son who is physically disabled and struggles with eating independently even though he’s 13. This would be perfect for him. I can also see how this might help an elderly person with Parkinsons (or any other disease that makes their hands unsteady) to maintain a little bit more independence.

I wish they offered this product in red or black, since both are uni-sex colors and neither one would be prone to staining from red products like ketchup or tomato-based sauces. Since they don’t offer red or black, I’ll take the pink one if I win because that’s less likely to show stains than the white or the blue.

When I feed my granddaughter she is always grabbing for the spoon and plate because she wants to feed herself. Although she tries hard, she still makes one heck of a mess and having the plate mate would give her the independence she demands while minimizing those messy spills at meal time which would be a big help to us both.
