With Spring Cleaning I full force, we tend to overlook some of the other important things in our home that need to be organized; Filing! I am guilty of just putting our documents in a box and I ‘plan on getting those filed one of these days’. Well, today needs to be THAT day. I had the pleasure to work with NeatCo with their amazing NeatReceipts mobile scanner. I have this installed at our desktop computer that we have sitting in an armour cabinet in our dining room. Here is what I did. I pulled 5 boxes 
(yes. Boxes!) of paperwork to be gone through, filed, trashed, etc. I spent a good part of my Saturday a couple of weeks ago to get organized. I labeled 4 tubs with:

This was the best way I could think of and this was truly the best way I could have done it. This was not as tough as I thought it would be. Honestly, I was dreading this part, but it was fun (I am weird that way) and I was able to knock out a good part of the trash so fast!

I did have one question about the NeatReceipts:
Are the scanned documents saved as a JPEG image?
Answer:
The data isn’t actually going to be easily identifiable – it won’t be a big directory of images somewhere, scans are stored as data in a SQL Express instance installed on the computer.
The files that make up that SQL Express instance are in a variable location – it’s Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.(some number)MSSQLData where (some number) is the lowest one that was available when the product was installed, usually 1.
The best way to back up the data is to open the software, go to the Tools menu and choose Database -> Backup. This will create a single package file that contains all of the scanned data. That backup file can be moved to an external drive for safe keeping.

I need to keep all the receipts for everything I spend on my rental properties. Keeping all those little papers I get for buying one can of paint or one utility bill is a real pain. This would help me keep everything I need in one place.
my husband is forever losing recipets that he swears must be kept. I usually try to keep the receipts, he then requests them and then the second they hit his hand they are gone.

OMG this would help me stay organized I am always losing receipt when when the item breaks I cant take it back. I wont have to ever worry about losing a receipt again. This is very nice. I love how you can save as PDF files.

How could this NOT help me?? My husband keeps EVERY SINGLE RECEIPT for anything he has ever purchased!! It drives me crazy. They are every where and then of course when he needs one to do a return he asks ME where to find it!! Drives me crazy! We shop alot and when we buy important things and want to hold on to our receipt…they end up somewhere…we can’t find them…so this would definitely help in one area.
The other thing is that the receipts fade and so becomes useless. This would help a whole lot in that area.

I am rather obsessive about checking receipts against statements, but sometimes they are messed up (my family has a habit of just shoving them anywhere), and often the print will fade so that they are not really legible if they have to be kept for taxes or any other reasons. This is awesome! I’m always saving receipts and then when I go to find them , they are all faded and barely readable, digital copies with this would be soo much easier than sticking it in my huge scanner!

WHOA! This product is AMAZING! I have the hugest box of reciepts the are just flung in there. I didn’t realize that you just needed a copy of the reciept instead of the real thing. The Neat Reciepts is a prefect was to keep a copy and not have a stack of paper (that fade and get lost!). The only problem… March 26 is TOO far away! I might have to buy one before then. This would be wonderful to have. We keep a daily log for my little one (for medical reasons) and instead of keeping the hard copy we could just use this and not have binders of papers. Plus we have papers for all kinds of other reasons.
