Can you believe I am 33 years old and have never had a cavity? Poor hubby, however, isn’t so lucky. We are raising our kids to know all about oral health, so when we had the chance to check out the kids’ Sonicare toothbrush, I was beyond excited!

DID YOU KNOW?
American children miss more school days each year due to dental related problems than any other two diseases combined.

THE FACTS:
Philips Sonicare, the number-one power toothbrush brand recommended by U.S. dental professionals for adults is introducing its first-ever Sonicare developed for kids Philips Sonicare For Kids is a power toothbrush specifically designed for parents to teach children to brush effectively and then transition them to independent brushing – delivering exceptional results at every phase of oral development from 4 -10 years of age.

Using proven, patented sonic technology from the number one recommended power toothbrush brand by U.S. dental professionals for adults, it removes more plaque than a children’s manual toothbrush

  • Sonicare For Kids is clinically proven to remove up to 75 percent more plaque in hard-to-reach areas than a children’s manual toothbrush in children ages seven to ten
  • In clinical studies, children ages seven to ten brushed significantly longer with Sonicare For Kids than with the Oral-B® Stages ‘4’ manual toothbrush and demonstrated significantly better brushing performance than with a children’s battery toothbrush

Philips Sonicare For Kids

Philips Sonicare For Kids features custom modes (60 and 40 percent less powerful than Sonicare FlexCare) for different phases of development to ensure a gentle, yet effective clean

  • Low mode – For children ages 4 – 7
  • High mode – For children ages 7 – 10

Philips Sonicare For Kids features unique design that encourages interdependence

  • Ergonomic handle fits easily in child’s hand
  • Two gripping locations for training with an adult and independent brushing
  • Easy-to-find on/off button makes it simple to locate and press
  • Anti-roll feature allows for easy toothpaste application
  • Interchangeable front design panels so kids can change the look of their brush
  • Age-appropriate brush heads, available in two sizes, help accommodate children’s development

SQUIRT_brush_heads_HQ

When we received this, Tucker wanted to choose the design panel that he wanted. I love this idea! The kids can basically customize their toothbrush when they want. It comes with 3 design panels so they can change when they want. So much fun!

sonicare

When Tucker brushes his teeth, the Sonicare beeps at him to move to another section of his mouth. You can hear it in the video below.

  • Philips Sonicare For Kids Features KidPacer® technology with fun musical tones that indicate when it’s time to move to the next quadrant of the mouth
  • Philips Sonicare For Kids features a KidTimer® to help kids reach the recommended 2-minute brushing time by progressively increasing time over 90 days

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

I love the overall look and feel of the Philips Sonicare For Kids. It fits perfectly in small hands and the grip is great so it wont slide out easy from their little hands.

Not only is the Philips Sonicare For Kids great for teaching them about teeth care, but it is fun for the kids to use. The Philips Sonicare For Kids, in my opinion, really seems to spark that interest for the kids to brush their teeth. It is fun for Tucker now instead of a regular toothbrush.

Sonicare For Kids is available now at www.philips.com/store or for pre-sale at Amazon.com or Target.com and will be available at Target stores in October. The suggested retail price is $69.99. For more information, visit www.sonicare.com.

My little one has had a cavity filling experience before, so I encourage her to brush enough to avoid having to go through that again. I also brush with her and we hum happy birthday a couple of times, so we know when we’ve brushed long enough.

My husband and I really don’t need to do too much to encourage our young kids to brush their teeth. We have already tried to make anything they do in their bathroom fun and an adventure and we don’t worry about water splashing or messes in the bathroom because we would rather have them enjoy their baths and brushing their teeth than to have them dread that time for personal care so we worry about the clean up once they are done.

I always purchase toothpastes that are flavored so that they will like the taste, as opposed to having a basic mint flavor. I also show by example how to properly brush their teeth and now my son enjoys teaching his younger sister. We try and make it a fun experience rather than something that they “must” do, and let them just be their selves in the bathroom. They actually ask me sometimes if they can brush their teeth, which the first time that happened my mouth must have dropped to the ground in shock! I guess we are doing something right with them!

Thanks so much for the chance to enter. I’d love for my son to have this, he has earned it!

36 Crystal F October 2, 2009 at 10:53 am

My girls get to pick out their toothbrushes and toothpaste but it still doesn’t make it any easier to get them to brush. They hate it for some reason. I just remind them that they don’t want teeth like mommy (my parents didn’t care what we did, I didn’t go to a dentist until I was married) and that seems to help a bit. lol Thanks for the giveaway!

When I was pregnant for my daughter I had a lot of stomach acid and it did some major damage to my teeth. I went to the dentist several times while I was prego and he never told me I was in for some trouble. Well now its 8 years later and I have a few grand worth of dental work that needs done. I show my daughter my teeth and she knows how depressed I am because of them and I let her no if she doesnt want hers to look like mine she needs to brush twice a day.

As lame as it sounds, brushing teeth is one of the chores on our chore chart that they get to put a sticker on if they do it. It is on there twice so they can do it in the morning and evenings. This seems to be enough to motivate them right now. I do try to pick cool toothbrushes for them every 3 months whent hey need replaceds and I let them pick kid friendly flavors of toothpaste.

We’ve been using Sonicare brushes for years (our dentist recommended them) and we love them! Maybe I need one of those UV Sanitizers on the web site…I didn’t know they had them! When my grandson stays with us he is really good about brushing without being reminded. He’s learned that it’s part of his routine and I think having good role models has been a big part of it.

We encourage our grand children to brush their teeth by playing a three minute favorite tune of theirs. Sometimes they dance a little during the song, but they are brushing their teeth and the time just flies by:)

Somehow when we all brush our teeth together it really seems to encourage my little one to brush too. I guess it’s because he sees mommy or daddy doing it too!

148 Anne D September 13, 2009 at 2:15 pm

I make it fun by buying them toothbrushes with characters.

149 Amanda September 13, 2009 at 11:01 am

We do it all together so they see that its important to brush and I have books that explain why we need to brush.

main entry: i love there products espeacailly the mother and child kits. my encouragement for my grandson who brushes his teeth here each morning before i take him to school is that i try to make it fun at teeth cleaning time.I have him a fabric roll pack i made him for his teeth cleaning items like brush, travel size toothpaste etc and he likes rolling it out and using it each morning. i also remind him in a loving way that papaws teeth were lost and needed false teeth because when he was little he did not brush as he should have and that really helps too.

We set an egg timer that is in the shape of a penguin so the kids like to use it and we made up a silly story about the “sugar monsters” and their mission is to get all of the sugar monsters out.

172 Sylvia September 12, 2009 at 4:16 pm

We use a timer

173 sandra September 12, 2009 at 2:10 pm

we have made brushing part of their bedtime ritual. i bought them fun electric toothbrushes to try to encourage them more.

174 Kate September 12, 2009 at 11:03 am

I encourage them to brush by doing my teeth at the same time – we all stand in the bathroom and brush out teeth. Really, they don’t like doing anything unless they know we do it too

175 Meagan H. September 12, 2009 at 10:14 am

We have a star chart up in the bathroom for every time the kids brush their teeth. Well, properly anyway. They know to brush for so long (we have a timer), then they can stop. this would help with it telling them when to change to the other side. So cool! Thanks for the chance :)

176 Lori A. September 12, 2009 at 10:13 am

This would be so great for my son! I encourage him to brush by being in the bathroom with him while he does it and make a fun game out of it.

I still have to get my older ones to brush. lol We used child safe toothpastes for our four year old. We get concerned with swallowing the toothpaste. We usually buy cute kid brushed like Hello Kitty to get her motivated.

Let your child pick out his own toothbrush and toothpaste. You can even encourage him to choose more than one at the store, and then let him have the choice of deciding which to use each time he brushes his teeth. This will give your child a sense of control over the situation and make him feel more involved in the process.

Buy your child some books about the importance of tooth brushing, and make a daily routine of reading those books before heading to the bathroom sink each day.

Make a game of good dental practices. Have the children in your house race to see who can brush their teeth the fastest, or see who can last the longest before they run out of toothpaste. One game I played with my children was having them compete against each other to see who could make the least amount of toothpaste mess!!

Not like they always want to brush there teeth but it does sometime work.
