Playroom plans: A loft!!

I get wild hairs every so often to re-do things in my house. This is part of the joy of owning our home; I get to rip down walls, paint, build, etc.

Here is a video from when I reorganized and added a playhouse to our 5 foot wide X 13 foot long playroom. Our home is an old 1900 home and this area used to be a porch – is all we can think of. Odd shape, so we turned it into a playroom. Works perfectly! I just showed hubby this picture that I found online of a playroom loft:

playroom-idea

Our kids are 2 and 4 1/2. Tucker (4 1/2) has his ‘quiet time’ (movie just before bedtime) in the playroom, so this room is a must have for our house. I am looking to make room, save room, create room in our house for toys, bins, books and whatever the kids need. I am currently taking measurements for me to BUILD a playroom loft just like this one, minus the doors on the house under the bed. This part will remain open and the kids’ kitchen will be moved from the entry way, in to the playroom, under the loft area. Everything in the playroom has a place, a bin, a shelf. I think this loft would help organize it even more!

Wish me luck! I think I can get this entire thing built for right around $50, if not less! I hope to start on it this weekend. :D

    How did it end up? I would love to do that but think it seems really expensive to duplicate? How much did it end up costing you? Any details are much appreciated.
    Thanks,

    @leslie, Hi Leslie :)
    It looks great! Still ‘unfinished’ as far as paint and a ladder, but in the end, it works GREAT and cost less than $30 for the wood. I will work on an update post for you and will email you if you’d like.

    I know you can do it… you are so creative.
    It will look adorable when you are done. The kitchen will look so cute under the loft and the kids will adore it. I can’t wait to see the finished product.
    Have fun knocking out your walls. :-)

    This is TOO cute. I woud LOVE to do something like this for my two youngest sons but we don’t own our own home yet. (And might I add that I am TOO jealous that your home is a 1900s home. I LOVE old houses as well. And brownstones. But that’s besides the point… lol) Please update us with pictures on how this goes. I can’t wait to see the final product.

    Take care,

    My hubby is currently in the process of finishing a room in our basement to be used as a playroom. I totally want to do this now!! Thanks for the inspiration :)
