Movie Night with Roku & NetFlix: Review & Fab Giveaway!

roku_logotm_richblack

I love movies! Who doesn’t? I cannot tell you how much we spend on renting DVD’s and what a hassle it is to get everyone dressed, loaded in the van and to the movie store. It would be great if I could rent a movie online, but watch it on my TV. Wait! There IS a way this can happen. I didn’t believe it at first, until our Roku arrived. Roku is a new, fun and affordable way for you and your family to stay entertained without breaking the bank. Is the current state of the economy forcing you to curtail those movie night outings?  Do you need a way to keep the kids occupied while enjoying some “you time”?  How about a quiet and inexpensive night in? We have movie and game night every week, so you can only imagine how costly this can get. Looking back at our bank statement, I see movie rentals quite often, so as of now, this is gone, thanks to Roku and NetFlix.

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, then following Easter (tons of Family Get togethers), Mother’s Day, Father’s Day (Shall I go on?) and budgets minimal this year, many do not have the funds for their usual getaway. Instead, why not stay at home this winter and give your loved one the gift of instant, entertainment for a one-time purchase of $99.

Roku, a leading innovator in digital media technology, is providing families with a fun and affordable alternative to home entertainment.  Roku has teamed up with Netflix to offer customers the ability to instantly watch more than 12,000 movies and TV episodes, including new releases and hundreds of options in HD, streamed directly to your TV. The best part, if you are like most Netflix customers and on a Netflix Unlimited plan (any plan that costs $8.99 a month or more); there are no limits to how much you can watch instantly.

The Roku Player is surprisingly easy to use and simple to integrate into any home entertainment system. All it takes is connecting the player to any TV and to the Internet. For homes with wireless Internet connectivity, the player is Wi-Fi enabled and offers the ultimate in placement flexibility. With the player’s accompanying remote control, members can browse and make selections right on the TV screen and also have the option to pause, rewind or play anytime just like a DVD.

I wanted to show you how EASY the Roku was for me to install. It took just a few minutes to get the Roku hooked up to my television, and a few more minutes getting my NetFlix account started online. Once it was created, I logged on to NetFlix.com, added movies to  my que, then I picked up the remote to Roku, navigated through the menu and there were my movies in que. Tucker was very excited to be able to watch Scooby Doo and Caillou instantly! Check out the picture to the right so you can see how small the Roku is on our entertainment stand.

I installed Roku today, set up my NetFlix account today and we have already watched 2 movies instantly. I am VERY impressed and very excited about this product! If there was ever a gift to get someone… it is the Roku!

This little piggie had noooooooo….money left because of all the late fees. This little piggie went ‘wheee, wheee, wheee!’ all the way home…because he knew he had roku and netflix and didn’t have to worry about that anymore. Cha-ching!

  10. We are huge movie buffs and had a gift subscription to Netflix a while back but can no longer afford it due to the economy. We try to check out movies from the library but they don’t have a lot of titles and we love the more obscure movies.

  11. Leigh Nichols says:

I would love to have one because movies are our only source of entertainment anymore since the economy took a dive 🙁

  19. We subscribe to Netlix but this would be so much more convienient. We wouldn’t have to wait for the movies to get here. This would be fantastic to win. Thanks for the chance.

  21. I have never heard of Roku before but it looks awesome! This would come in handy for our family movie nights!

  22. We love to watch movies together as a family but it’s expensive to take 7 people to the movie theather!

  23. Elizabeth Ray says:

I have Netflix, and really like it. My husband often wants something spur of the moment, but the instant-view on the computer screen is so small. Straight to the big screen tv – that’s the ticket!

  29. Gloria Dornin says:

we just don’t have time to go rent movies. This would be perfect

  30. We have been Redbox fans for quite awhile but it’s becoming so popular that it’s hard to find the movies we want. Besides, who wants to go out on a cold winter night to get a movie when using a Roku would be so easy. My husband and I loooove old movies and Netflix has a great collection of movies we can’t find at Redbox or Blockbuster. And for the price!!! Wow, I wouldn’t have to go to the library all the time because we can only afford to pay for one movie a week (and that’s with Redbox).

Can you tell I reallly like Roku’s and Netflix? One of the greatest inventions in our time.

  31. I would love to have it because I have netflix but use dvds now this would make my membership so much better

  37. awesome concept this would save a lot of money spent at Blockbuster!

  38. We would LOVE to win! Here is a little poem for you.

We sit here lonely and wishing,
    how much we are missing,
without a Ruko of our own,
we are like a dog without a bone,
glory be! what do we see,
Mommy Googles has come to rescue we,
ooh the money we can save,
when we watch movies the Roku way.

  42. cathleen n. says:

Roku is a clever little toy that would make movie watching my new favorite hobby 🙂 I don’t get to watch movies that much and if I do, it’s a DVD rental from the library.. long waiting lists for popular titles, and late fees, ARG! I’d love the Roku/Netflix combo. My quality of life would improve that much 🙂 Thanks!

  43. I would love to have a Roku and netflix in order to accomodate my movie fix with my insane schedule. Thanks for the opportunity.

  44. Since my son was born we don’t get a chance to see many movies in the theater. I’d love this because my husband and I can have movie night right here in our living room

  45. We would love to win. Thanks.

  46. I’d like roku because I like movies.

  47. We don’t like regular TV much so we use Netflix, but it’s really tight on our budget. This would be great!

  50. I’d love to have the Roku for convenience. The fact that I don’t have to drive out or wait for my movies would be great. I can watch them anytime I want and not have to worry about the hassle. This looks like such a cool thing to have. NetFlix!!

  51. Since our daughter was born we haven’t had the chance to go to the movies (no family nearby so no trustworthy babysitters for an infant) – this means we have a lot to catch up on but we never know which night we have the time and this means some rentals go back late (extra fees!) or unwatched.

  52. I would LOVE to have a Roku so I could watch my son’s NASCAR races in style!

  53. Shelly Miller says:

what a cool and innovative idea, i had no idea! count me in please

  54. The Roku sounds amazing. I would love to watch movies instantly. Thanks.

  56. Kathy Conley says:

I would love to have a Roku because I can’t really afford going out to the movie anymore and even renting has become difficult as a single mom of 3, I am really prioritizing these days!

  57. This Roku thing? WANT!!! It sounds super fabulous!! We haven’t been to the movie theater in YEARS (yes, years…seriously!). So you know we are renting a TON. I especially hate having to go out in this uber winter weather we’ve been having. Roku would solve my aversion to, well…cold. And snow!!

  58. The Roku would be brilliant in my house because I’m a serial DVD-buyer.. I buy rather than rent movies that interest me, even if I haven’t seem them. Anything to curb that spendy habit would help!

  59. Aaron Johnson says:

This roku player is so cool
i would love one of these roku players
i think people in my household would enjoy this roku player
not only because that it is smaller than our dvr or our dvd player
but it’s for the program variety, in general
i like to watch anything in the childrens family catagory

  60. A great giveaway and something we really need in our home to watch movies.

  61. valerie mabrey says:

    count me in to win

  62. This would help so much! I would love to be able to watch movies with my family whenever we can all get together and also have a night with all my girlfriends to watch that chick flick we didnt have a chance to see it theaters! Thanks!

  63. We love movies and have not been able to rent any for quite a few months. Thanks.

  64. Pamela Ray says:

I would adore this. I adore movies.

  65. I’ve never heard of this before, but love being able to instantly watch movies from Netflix. Very cool!

    Thnaks

  66. kathy pease says:

  68. Jill Miller says:

I’m doing everything I can to save money, and this would help me out!!

  69. My schedule is crazy and that makes movie viewing hard to fit in. Roku might make that a lot easier, then I wouldn’t be dumbfounded while everyone else talks about this or that movie they just watched.
