Spring Recipes & Snack Ideas from Sam’s Club

This Memorial Holiday Weekend, we spent the weekend at our family’s house, and had a family friends’ high school graduation which was a blast! 200 people were there, at their house  , but had a seriously amazing and fun time with everyone!

With the holiday weekend, not only am I thinking and praying for our troops, but with this extended weekend, we are making treats for the family, the kids, as well as for the graduation party. This is where Sam’s Club has rescued us more times than I can count, especially for this weekend. I went to Sam’s  Club 4 times in 24 hours. How’s that for being forgetful and needing to go back? LOL One of my favorite things that I love to make for our family at home and that I made while we were having all our extended family over for the long holiday weekend, was Monkey Bread. I got all that I needed… from Sam’s Club!

Monkey Bread in a Bread Machine

homemade monkey bread

INGREDIENTS (Put in machine in order as below)

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons margarine, softened
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast

For the topping:

  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup raisins (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of chopped pecans (optional)

DIRECTIONS for a bread machine. You can make this in your oven as well.

  1. Remove baking pan from machine. Place (in order) water, softened margarine, flour, sugar, cinnamon & salt.
  2. At the top of the powdered mixture, place the yeast. Make sure that no liquid comes in contact with the yeast. Select dough cycle and press start.
  3. When dough is complete, place dough on floured surface and knead 10 to 12 times.
  4. In a medium saucepan on low heat, melt one cup of butter, stir in brown sugar and raisins (1/4 cup of chopped nuts is good too!). Stir until smooth. Remove from heat.
  5. Cut dough in one inch chunks. Drop one chunk at a time into the butter sugar mixture. Thoroughly coat dough pieces, then layer them loosely in a greased Bundt or tube pan, staggering layers so you’re plopping each dough chunk over a space between two below. Let rise in a warm, draft-free spot until dough is just over the top of the pan, 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. Bake in a preheated 375 degree F (190 degree C) oven for 20 to 25 minutes or till golden brown. Remove from oven, place a plate face down in top of the pan and, using oven mitts to hold plate on pan, turn over both until bread slides out onto plate. Serve warm…and enjoy.

We also made one of our favorite treats that Tucker loves to make: Pudding Dirt Cups! While we were at Sam’s Club, we got all we needed to make some homemade bread, Monkey Bread and some yummy pudding cups.

While we were there, I saw these soda frozen treat pops and couldn’t pass them up to try with our 90 degree weather we were having!

We picked up some things to grill out burgers, make treats and of course, homemade pancakes for everyone too!

PUDDING DIRT CUPS

  • We bought the large can of chocolate pudding from Sam’s Club. It was just over $2.50 for a huge can! This made about 20 well filled pudding cups!
  • 3 1/2 c. Cool Whip (8 oz.), thawed
1 (16 oz.) pkg. chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed and divided
  • 8-10 (8 oz.) plastic or paper cups
  • Silk or plastic flowers (optional)
  • Candy worms (optional)

Pour 2 cups cold milk into bowl. Add pudding mix. Beat with wire whisk until well blended. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir whipped topping and 1/2 of the crushed cookies into the pudding, very gently until mixture is all the same color.

Place 1 tablespoon of remaining cookies into bottom of cups. Fill cups about 3/4 full with pudding mixture. Top each cup with the rest of the crushed cookies. Put cups into refrigerator to chill until set, about 1 hour. Garnish with flowers and worms (optional). Sam’s Club didn’t have Gummy worms that I could find, so Tucker asked for Scooby Doo gummy treats. LOL! We did find some Gummy worms at Walmart, but we used both the Scooby Doo treats & Gummy worms to give it a kick.

Yum! Those all look so good and I love monkey bread! I’ll have to give your recipe a whirl sometime. Aren’t pudding dirt cups the best? So easy to put together and all kids go crazy for it! :)

I don’t have a bread machine but I think we might have to try the Pudding Dirt Cups sometime! Kelsie is getting to love any “cooking” she can help with!
