Words move me! Sony Reader Giveaway! (Closed)

What moves you? No, really – what MOVES you? Words move me. They always have. I write poetry (shh don’t tell anyone!) and I keep a journal. I love words. I love creating positive thoughts just from a few short words. I am one that loves to read daily quotes and thoughts of inspiration.

words move me1

I am very excited to be working with Sony to help promote their new and amazing website: www.wordsmoveme.com. ‘Words move me’ is a destination where people can share their reading experiences with others by posting moments from their favorite pieces of literature that stand-out or had an impact on their lives. In the widget below, I included some of my favorite quotes and will be adding more, from phrases and books that I have read.

I have to admit that I have shied away from reading, but I have been getting back in to reading. Reading is a nice form of therapy, if you want to call it that. Soaking yourself in a good book is so rejuvenating!

I want to hear from YOU what moves you. What’s in it for you? You can win a Sony Reader!

(I will have a future post on the Sony Reader, so be sure to check back!)

One of my favorite books as an adult is probably Serpentine. It’s a true crime novel. Not the lascivious cheap ones you might find in a drugstore, this is a detailed and well-written tome like Helter Skelter. The great thing about Serpentine is that instead of getting muddled in boring details it is a totally briskly paced real-life thriller.

I am an English teacher so words have always appealed/called/intrigued me but my 9 year old made words “move” me. Third grade has challenged my son, Jack, who always loved to be read aloud to. Amazingly, Jack was diagnosed with dyslexia this school year and “The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan made him feel complete. When the heroic Percy Jackson has dyslexia, as my 9 year old says…”anything is possible.” So my own child has taught me beyond words that books, even to a special needs child, can change your life and move you.

I’ve been reading since I was very little. My parents always promoted books first. I remember being obsessed with RL Stine’s Fear Street series in Jr. High. Then I moved on to adult mysteries. Only recently have I broadened into other genres and non-fiction. One of my favorites right now is NurtureShock by Po Bronson. And I love little Christmas novels this time of year. Feel good stories. Now that I have a daughter, I am trying to pass on my love of reading to her. Her bedroom, playroom are filled with books. Other rooms in our home always have books available too.

I have several favorite books. A few months ago I just finished the Twilight series and have to say that I am a fan for sure! They said that the Twilight series is not just for teenagers and most of my friends ages ranging from 26 to 45 have read them. So I gave them a try and fell in love with the story line for sure. The idea is a great one….passion, lust, love, and unconditional love are a great combination. And I am a HUGE fantasy/vampire/witches fan. So I did love the books. I would also have to say that I am almost done with the Sookie Stackhouse novels (Tru Blood on HBO). Another set of vampire, witches, fairies, etc. type of novels. I love them! I do recommend the Sookie Stackhouse novels to anyone who likes fantasy types of novels. Thanks for the giveaway.

“Let’s see, now… in HOGFATHER there are a number of stabbings, someone’s killed by a man made of knives, someone’s killed by the dark, and someone just been killed by a wardrobe.
It’s a book about the magic of childhood. You can tell.”
    – (Terry Pratchett, author of HOGFATHER, on alt.fan.pratchett)

It’s one of my favorite books by my favorite author. I’ve been re-reading it every year about this time. I got to go to a book signing in NYC. Good times.

It was a real thrill to hear Elmore Leonard speak last year. Not only has he written many best-selling books, he is also responsible for the screenplays for several successful films. He was an engaging speaker with a dry sense of humor that was most appealing.

I’m going to go with the most recent read that moved me: Eileen Goudge’s Once in a Blue Moon. I was going through (and still am) a rough time in life and her book could not have been given to me at a better time. A love story thats not the typical cheesy chick novel. It helped me cope with what was going on in my life.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

One of the most memorable passages I ever read is the final paragraph of E.M. Forster’s short story “The Machine Stops.” It’s not a warm and cuddly story, but his description of mankind dying in the grips of a self-created environment is beautifully haunting.

In my youth I read and reread and read again The Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Vernes. I read sci-fi, history with fictional characters, and am currently reading the top 100 or so books.

I used to carry the books with me but my shoulder can no longer support the “what have you got in your purse, a ton of bricks?”. I now carry as little as possible including dropping the big bulking books.

I discover I can put a book or two on my cell phone as long as I erase it as I read it,then I can find my place, but can not go back to question what was it that I read what might be a clue or who was that then?

I am so hoping to win a reader then I can really read as I like with bookmarks to mark where I am and passages that are important.

Also the smallness, less bulk, and weight will mean I can again bring my books with me to read as I wait somewhere.

    THANK YOU.

I have always loved to read. When I was a little girl, my mom would get up in the middle of the night and find me in my bed reading at all hours. Two of my favorite authors are Tracy Chevalier and Julia Quinn. My favorite genres are fiction, historical fiction, and chick-lit.

    Thanks!

I love reading and I remember really loving to read when I started Judy Blume books in 3rd grade. Most were over my head but i loved them and would re-read books all the time. My parents would always let me buy books, or would bring me to the library for books.
I am grateful to them for that gift.

I have loved books for as long as I can remember. One of my favorite Christmas gifts was the entire set of Laura Ingalls Wilder books. I read them so many times, I could recite them (and the spines were broken). I try to never break the spine of the book, something about harming the book seems wrong.

Whenever I needed to escape the family business or an infant sister, I escaped in Laura’s life. I have found many other authors over the years that also allow me to escape. Now that I have a son, we spend a little time every evening just reading. I hope he continues on this path of loving books. I love it when he says “Read mama.”

I’m a library lady, really I am…so books and reading and words…they surround me and make me who I am. If you ever want suggestions on what to read, I’m your girl. I’ll read anything, er, well, except Christian Fiction. Sorry, that’s my downfall. We know life isn’t all peachy and rosy keen. Give me smut or give me death! Ha!!

I created an account at Words Move Me and entered one of my favorite Eskimo Proverbs.

Perhaps they are not stars but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.
