All this week is National TV Turn-Off week (April 20-26) and in that honor, I have teamed up with Subway to bring you a fun giveaway that will help get your kids active this summer season.
SUBWAY recently announced a partnership with the National Institute of Health and the NIH’s We Can! program (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition), encouraging kids to push away the screen.
I am a firm believer to turn the TV off and get those kids active, as well as yourself. Active kids = happy kids! I know this first hand. Tucker is such a different kid when he is active, outside and running around; and not to mention, he sleeps a lot better at night from being active and eating well. Subway is a place that my family visits a LOT. I think hubby eats there at least twice a week, if not more. Tucker LOVES his footlong subs and what a better way to get your kids to eat healthy, than to let them pick out what they want on their sandwiches? He loves going to Subway!

I have a VERY FUN P.E.P. Rally kit (Play more, Eat right, Push away the screen) to give away to one lucky reader!
P.E.P. Rally kit includes:
- Butterfly net
- Air up baseball

We go for walks.
stay active and eat healthy:)
We play a lot outdoors and we’re always eating home cooked meals and lots of fruit
I get them involved with cooking so they know what vegetables and fruits they love. We also walk the dog daily.
I’m a subscriber.
During the summer we stay active and eat healthy by growing organic veggies in our own garden – exercise + healthy food!
I encourage my children to play games outside. I take them to the park and on hikes. I serve then healthy nutrious meals and snacks. Sugar and fast foods are limited and only includes Subway.
We go for walks every day and I feed them lots of fresh fruits and veggies. I always pack their lunch and try to make it fun for them. Vegan Lunch Box has been a big inspiration for me.
I keep my kids healthy and active by not buying the junk. I try to keep it out of the house if not it will get eaten up by my kids. I try to buy healthy alternatives that are still yummy like Go-Gurts or natural Gummi candies.
Thanks for the chance we love Subway.
We walk our seven dogs and eat tons of fruits and veggies.
We love to dance with our kids. It’s a great way to stay active and have fun. We also limit the amount of junk food in the house too.
we get water games…the kids play outside for hours with those!
As a family, we try to hit as many street fairs and festivals as we can during the warmer months to discourage us from being couch ppotatoes and I try to keep fresh fruits in the house to encourage healthy eating.

my kids love to play every school sport there is and they love eating veggies which im glad
We take walks every evening and I provide fun fruits and veggies with every meal.
We keep junk food out of the house and go on after dinner walks..
Best way is to be a good example! We all go to the park together on weekends.
To keep active, we turn on Yo Gabba Gabba and DANCE!

We like to play outside and try to make snacks healthy ones like fruit and yogurt.
My daughter and I go to a Zumba class 3 times a week and walk a lot – we eat healthy because I don’t buy junk food!
Thanks
My kids are enrolled in an after school sports program. And on the weekend they go to swim lessons.
Every day includes active play time, usually outside if the weather isn’t wet.
This would be great for our backyard. My neice and nephew are at our house a lot and we lack in the toy department. Great to get them out of the house and active. Thanks

My son is only 9 months old, so he can only be so active, eating healthy is way easier because he eats what I give him. I encourage him to get moving and crawl for what he wants so he learns to be active.
We go running as a family.
We live near a park thats great for that.
We play outdoors most days. We walk and play ball. I also make sure we have healthy snacks like fruit instead of candy.
We walk around our neighborhood at least 5 days a week picking up garbage. On the weekends the kids are olny allowed 1 hou of tv and must play outside(weather permitting) at least 2 hours. Thanks!
We have a wonderful playground just a block away from our house. Now that the weather is nicer, we have been walking to it several times a week!
We ride our bike or walk to the park almost everyday. We are teaching our son that you need to have a balanced diet. There should be something from each of the food groups at every meal. We don’t have junk food in the house. Instead of chips they snack on yogurt and fresh fruit.
We walk the dogs a lot and go to the park often to the walking trails.
wednesday entry thanks
I would love the chance to win, thanks.
We play outside on the play ground we have. We also go hiking and camping
We’re vegetarians, and try not to eat processed foods, either.
I limit the time my daughter can spend in front of the computer and television, and in the nicer weather I urge her to go outdoors and ride her bike, take a walk with mom, play on her swings, run around the yard–just be active. She also goes to a summer camp and has lots of fun running and playing with her friends. In the winter, it is a bit harder to do because there really isn’t much where we live for kids indoors-although she does love to slide and climb up the hill afterwards!
We like to go for walks to the park!

We are a soccer family and we love to spend weekends camping at the lake.
Both my kids love it outside so we spend as much time out at the park and backyard as possible very little TV and I am on a diet so no fatty food or sugar it keeps them eating healthy as well.
We eat mostly vegetarian–and I don’t short-order cook separate food for my daughter! We keep no junk food in the house, and she thinks that fruit is a treat so that’s OK. We also hike, bike, and kayak together.

keeping kids active and eating healthy….oh the eating part is difficult for my son..he is really picky. He loves subway though so that is good. He is not a meat eater really so we get the protein in with eggs and PB(but has recently started eating lunch meat). Getting active is never a problem for him…one thing we did this winter seeing going outside wasnt an option too often…is buying a wii fit…He loves exercising alongside mommy!
I try to have only healthy food in the house. We keep active by swimming, bike riding and hiking.

My family (kids included) and I stay active by going on walks and playing on the playset in the backyard
My kids also love to go on bike rides.
another day another entry
wow
I keep my kids active by turning off the tvs and riding our bikes through the neighborhood, and swim alot in the summer.
We keep active and healthy by setting an example. Bike riding, walking, all kinds of exercise and encouragethem to get involved in school sports programs. Fresh fruits and vegetables are a must here
we go to the park and i keep fruit in the house.
The best way for us to stay active is through organized sports. I guess I am too lazy at heart because left to our own devices, we are not active enough. But when we take lessons and play on a team, it keeps us interested and motivated to keep going.

I think the best way to keep kids active to make sure they play outside when possible and to lead by example…bike with them, play tag with them, etc. Same with eating…provide fruits and vegetables at every meal and lead by example. Thanks.
We go to the park any chance we get, and eat plenty of fresh fruit and veggies.
In the Summer months we head to the lake quite a bit. In the Winter months we snowboard and sled.

I try to keep healthy snacks in the house. I encourage them to go outside to skate, ride their bikes, play with the dogs.
My children have always been involved in sports. I make sure that they take vitamins everyday and eat fruits & vegetables.
My wife works full time and I work part time, in the evenings so our boys don’t have to go to daycare. I would love to get this to have something new and something ‘dad fun’ to do with the kids. Thank you for the chance!
we walk home from preschool & we don’t eat fastfood!

I take my grandchildren to the park. They love to run around and play on the equipment. We all get a great workout!

I’m lucky that my kids actually enjoy fruits and veggies and playing outside. They also enjoy all the lazy junky stuff but as long as I have good food to offer they will gladly accept.
thanks for the entry

Kids follow by example so I eat healthy and exercise. I make activity outside fun.
We take as many walks as possible & as the weather gets nicer we’ll start ruiding our bikes. I try to keep fresh fruit & cut up veggies for their snacks. It satisfies them & they don’t seem to crave chips & garbage.
We go geocaching to keep the kiddos healthy and active and we make/bake every thing from scratch.
I don’t buy junk food and give them chores to do outside.
We lead by example. We’ve always preferred outdoor activities over indoors and our kids grew up loving to be outside. Our granddaughter now loves the outdoors as well. She would rather be outside playing and she loves going with us to the park, walking on the trails or just playing in the backyard.
Thanks for the chance to win!
My son is so picky and I’ve been working on getting him out of that habit. He eats whatever I make up for dinner, no matter what it is, and he has to try it, or nothing afterwards!
Heck just getting outside & playing in the sun! We also do walks in the evening!
How I keep my kids active? How can I not? We have a park just down our road – which they love visiting. We have a community pool. We have numerous parks and kid friendly activities within the city on any given weekend. They run, they romp, they are active just about every minute of the day. I wish I could recharge like they do.
How we keep them eating healthy is basically eating healthy ourselves. We’ve never exposed them to eating purely junk food. We don’t go to fast food joints. They don’t even know what the golden arches represent. They eat fresh fruits and veggies right off the chopping block. Even broccoli and peppers! I find that if you make a big deal of how good something tastes, they’ll soon follow suit.
Nice giveaway. We keep our kids active by encouraging them to play various sports – plus it helps that Daddy is a martial arts instructor! And we keep them eating healthily by cooking most of their meals from scratch rather than using processed foods. And water, lots and lots of water!
we play a lot of lawn games and exercise regularly.we have eliminated red meat and soda from our diets

My daughter is 7 montsh old so right now I am making her baby food at home instead of buying “Gerber” it saves us so much money and I think it is healthier for her.

I try to keep lots of healthy snacks on hands (bananas, grapes, apples, gogurts) and make them easy to access in the refrigerator. We also have a swingset in our backyard and the kids love to play outside.

I take my grandson to the park and we play catch ball. When he comes over I have healthy fresh fruit waiting for him.

we play and stay active by going to the park and playing in the yard
I keep my kids eating healthy by making sure they have a good breakfast, I pack their lunches for school so I know what they are eating, and I make dinner every night. To keep them active, we like to go for family walks, or they like to take walks with their friends. Thanks for the review and giveaway!
We have a family membership to the YMCA and regularily go there to swim and play in the family gym time. I also eat quite healthy myself and feel that setting a good example is the best I can do.
We often go for walks after dinner or dance some calories off.
My kids play outside everyday and are very active on there own I try to make a balanced dinner every night.
To keep them eating healthy, I prepare healthy meals and limit the quantity of junk food snacks around the house. I keep them active by walking or biking together and making outdoor chores a family activity. Even toddlers can help with planting and cleaning up the yard.
To be honest, I have two 4-year-old boys so being active just comes naturally for them! Sometimes I have to tell them to slow down! I try to make eating healthy foods fun by giving them a variety of different options and trying new things.

we go for walks and bike rides when the weather is nice. and i try to feed them lots of fruit since they’re not fond of vegetables.
We don’t buy unhealthy snacks except on special occasions. We also take a lot of walks and trips to the park when the weather allows.
I subscribe!!! Thanks.

We walk to the park everyday! As a family we have been eating less meat and more turkey. Thanks for the chance.

Luckily my son iss a natural born healthy eater and really really active! I do have to monitor his sugar but his favor snack is fruit. He loves all fruit and would eat only fruit all day if I let him.
I do also encourage him to try new foods. He loves salad and veggies.
We cook alot and buy fresh produce.
My own kids are only a few months old but when we babysit our niece, we typically go outside and play golf or softball in the backyard.

I think the best way to keep kids eating healthy is to have only healthy food in the house. Remember that you are the one who is the shopper, not the kids. Nothing goes in the cart without your permission.
We go outdoors with my daughter and play games with her. This usually gets her (and us) moving a lot more! Thanks for the great giveaway!
We don’t watch tv much anyway. My kids love being active and playing outside. We have 5 acres so we are out a lot. When it’s warmer we swim in our pool. My kids are in many activities and sports. I follow the Amer Heart Assoc diet for my family so lots of fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains. Blessings, Stefanie fhartman@frontiernet.net
We take “Nature Walks” around the neighborhood and keep our eyes out for interesting plants and animals. Then we stop at the park and have a fruit and trail mix snack. Thanks!
Our family has set aside Saturday mornings for a Family Bike Ride! Everyone looks forward to the Fun Time
I also set out a Fruit & Veggie Tray quite often, and let them create their own plate!
We try to get outside when its nice, which automatically makes them active! LOL! We also try to make sure the kids get plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, but they are picky, so it isn’t easy.
We spend alot of time outside. We bought a pass to the zoo and plan to go at least 1 – 2 times a month. This allows DSD to learn about the animals as well we get some much needed activity. When we are home, DSD has found that she really enjoys shooting baskets. We are constantly out there playing basketball and just having fun as a family.
As for the eating. We have started grilling like mad. It is so quick and way less extra’s needed to cook the meet and veggies. If it can be cooked on the grill we are doing it.
My son plays sports and jumps on his trampoline. He always seems to be a lot more active when friends are over, so we schedule playdates. He loves fruit, so we keep fruit around.
We stay healthy by going for walks together and by metal detecting a bunch during the spring and summer. I also try to cook as much from scratch as possible. Thanks for the chance.
Get the kids outside and be kids. Being in the house ,being bored and the food is there. Get them outside ,ride a bike, jump rope or play hopscotch. Get them moving!!Also keep a bowl of fresh fruit on the table ,I bet the kids will reach for it!!
We walk places together rather than driving (as long as its close by) and run around, ride bikes, rollerblade, and dance our botties off. We don’t allow a lot of sugar around but we eat it in moderation for special occassions. It’s never caused a problem in our house before. We would much rather eat yogurt, red bell pepper strips, carrots, strawberries, or melon.
We have a HUGE backyard so we always get the kiddos out and play!
Whether it be badminton, volleyball, basketball, hopscotch…
WE also eat lots of fruits n veggies!!
I do childcare…and have a fully loaded back yard to play in. I also serve healthier snacks during childcare hours…amazing what kids will eat with eachother that they refuse to eat at family meal time!
Teach by example and take walks everyday!
While I do not have children of my own I do take care of my sisters children very often. They love to go to the park and to the beach. So once the weather gets better we are always there. They love to have picnics as well. Though they are picky eaters they love yogurt and string cheese. I usually make sure I have at least one of those items with me when I have them. The children also love fresh fruit so I have grapes with me or cut up melon.
We play a lot in the backyard and I always try and encourage them to eat healthy snacks, like fruit! Healthy and tasty is the way to go.
The best way to get kids to be active and eat healthy is to do it yourself. If they see Mom and Dad do it, so will they. We don’t keep unhealthy snacks in the house. They are limited to when we are out somewhere and make them a treat..ice cream, a candy bar, chips, etc. This allows us to buy a limited amount, consume it right then…and then it’s gone till the next treat time.
My kids are involved in after school sports, skiing, snowboarding and mountain bike clubs. Keeping them active isn’t a problem. But eating healthy kind of is. They’re all picky. My younger ones won’t eat fruit, and my older ones reject vegetables. So frustrating. They always have to try everything, though. Thanks for the giveaway~
