‘The Wrestler’ on DVD and Blu-Ray

wrestlerI have to say that when I first heard about “The Wrestler” coming out on DVD and Blu-ray, I HAD (HAD) to tell hubby. Of all sports nuts in this world, this would definitely include my hubby! Here are some of his thoughts about this movie. Who else to tell you the hard core about this movie, than a sports nut?!

Overall: LOVED the movie!

The Wrestler was about a professional wrestler from the 80’s that had a lot of success and fame. As he grew older, he was considered a legend and always respected in the professional wrestling community. He was aging, bang up, and a long time user of steroids to maintain his physique. He had lived his dream of being a professional wrestler but there was a price to pay for his fame. In the twenty first century he lived paycheck to paycheck wrestling in small clubs on the weekends. When he suffered from a heart attack after a competition he realized how alone he was when he was told he could not wrestle anymore. He soon believed he was only appreciated in the ring. The ring was his life and the only place he was appreciated and felt comfortable. He decided he would rather die in the ring doing what he loved then living a life without companionship, a family or a satisfying job.

On April 21st, Fox Home Entertainment will release the poignant and moving THE WRESTLER on DVD & Blu-ray! Mickey Rourke revives his career with his amazing performance in one of the year’s best films!! THE WRESTLER comes to DVD & Blu-ray April 21, 2009!

One of the most-critically acclaimed films of the year, featured on dozens of year-end “top ten” lists and garnering numerous accolades for its once fallen star, The Wrestler debuts on Blu-ray Disc and DVD April 21 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) directs Mickey Rourke (Sin City, Man on Fire) in a career-defining role as Randy “The Ram” Robinson, a veteran performer on the professional wrestling circuit who is desperate to hold on to the fame and glory that once surrounded him. Despite himself and the odds stacked against him, “The Ram” begins to evaluate his state of life, attempting to reconnect with his estranged daughter and striking up a relationship with an exotic dancer with troubles of her own. Bruised and battered both inside and outside the ring, Randy slowly tries to piece together the life he still has; but the thrill of the show and the passion for his art threatens to take it all away from him once again.

“A film of authentic beauty and commanding consequence” (Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal), The Wrestler took home two Golden Globe® awards including Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama (Rourke) and Best Original Song (Bruce Springsteen) and features moving performances from Oscar®** winner Marisa Tomei (In The Bedroom, My Cousin Vinny) and Golden Globe®*** nominee Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen, Across The Universe).
