Time Outs with the Time Out Pad

We have had a rough time with these ‘terrible three’s’ with Tucker. We all wish we could be Supernanny, right? Well, with time outs in our house now, they aren’t as rough. We have fun and learn a lesson with the Time Out Pad. I love the whole concept of it and think that it is a great idea!

Time Out Pad™

The Time Out Pad™ helps parents make the most of the time out technique.

To help children learn when their behavior is not acceptable, many parents use the ‘time-out’ technique, sitting the child quietly for a few minutes to calm down. Time-outs are a great way for the parents to stay calm too!

Key features

  • Simple to use pressure pad with built-in timer
  • Visual countdown and audio function
  • Suitable for children from 2 years and up

Helpful Parenting Tips

With the Time Out Pad, we have it in our stairway, leading upstairs. We have a baby safety gate at the bottom of the steps, so when we need a time out, Tucker knows that the Time Out Pad is on the steps and he goes right to it.

Here is a video of it in action. Pardon our old wallpaper and carpet in our hallway stairs. We are still remodeling. LOL!

Before the child sits down, you push the button, the child sits down and the Time Out Pad is activated. If the child gets up, it will beep to warn the parent. The look on Tucker’s face when he gets up is funny because he knows that he was caught trying to sneak away from the Time Out Pad and time out area.

How it works

  • Simply set the built-in timer to the desired time-out duration (usually one minute per year of the child’s age) and sit the child on the pressure sensitive pad.
  • If the child gets up before the end of the programmed time, an alarm sounds to alert the parent or caregiver, and the countdown will pause until the child sits back down.
  • Once the full time-out countdown has elapsed, the finish tune is played to let everyone know that the session has ended. The child should then apologize and be rewarded with a big hug!

This is a fabulous product and I am so thankful to have it. Time outs in our home are nothing like they used to be!
