I have been asked about Tucker going to Junior Kindergarten instead of Kindergarten. I thought I would explain it here.
Tucker was born at the end of July 2005. He meets an age where we can either:
- send him to Kindergarten this year, but he will be the youngest in his class and with the age, comes weight class for sports. With sports being a pretty big thing for our school, we chose to keep him back, but also so he will be ahead academically.
- our town is in its’ second year of Junior Kindergarten, and it has been very successful, for kids that the parents choose to hold their child back or for those that meet the birthday requirements such as Tucker. The Junior Kindergarten classes are the exact same as regular Kindergarten with the exception that the classes are smaller, more one on one time with the students (about 10-15 in each class verses 30). This will be a great way for Tucker to have more one on one learning time with his teacher and he will still be able to attend all the kindergarten functions like field trips, programs, parties and events.
I am very excited for him and he is very excited to go to school on Tuesday! Be sure to keep track of his school progress here!

My birthday is in December and I was always the youngest and smallest in my class growing up, but I don’t think it makes as big a difference for a girl as it does for a boy when it comes to sports. Academically I was always towards the top of my class and worked really hard at ti, but again I think it is easier for smaller girls than it is for smaller boys.
I think it is up to the parent and only you know your child best, if you feel it is what is the right thing for your child, than I’m sure you are correct. Good luck to Tucker, can’t wait to see how he does.

Yay! For Tucker. Here we have Pre-K. My two youngest kids birthday fall in Oct & Dec so they had to stay behind due to it. Hope he has a great year of learning & fun!

Junior Kinder is kinda like pre-k, but it’s nice because they are in the same building as the other kids and they have the same leaning schedule as kinder. I’m really impressed!
