Updated Contest Entries for Twitter

I was asked if it was OK for people to enter more than once a day, via Twitter, for a contest. I will say that I did say yes at first, but to be blunt here – I didn’t think that people would enter 500 times in 3 days. I could see 5 times or maybe 10, but here’s the deal…. I don’t get paid for moderating comments on my blog. Yes, it is my blog, I run contests that I see that my followers will like, but no one is giving me a paycheck to sit here twice a day and moderate 800 comments at a time. I don’t have time for that.

Effective immediately, the Guidecraft contest is one Tweet per DAY. Not only is this costing me a lot of time away from my home and family, but this constant tweeting for giveaways will get you booted off Twitter for spam.

I spend a lot of time and energy on my blog, but any extra time that I have, I’d prefer not to have to spend moderating 2000 comments a day for one contest.

Thank you for your understanding.

Glad you posted it. Even with multiple tweets per day allowed on some giveaways, I only tweet once per day. I don’t have time to tweet all day anyway. Glad you brought it back down to once per day.

Wow. I’m a sweeps junkie, and many sweeps are limited to one tweet per day. A few are 3 times per day, and some are hourly. I’ve recently entered one that was “unlimited”. Even for the hourly and unlimited ones, I think the most I entered by tweeting was 4 times in one day, and usually not that much.

I appreciate the work you – and many other bloggers – put into this.

I am glad you’re changing this. It’s not fair to those of us who don’t have time to Tweet a zillion times a day. It’s also not fair to those of us who are trying to honestly win a contest. Thanks!

Wow you had one person that tweeted around 30 times for the same giveaway. It’s a shame people take a nice gesture and abuse it. I guess she really increased her odds of winning. I didn’t even know about the extra daily tweets, but even if I did I would never do more than one in a hour and I would probably stick to two a day. Shame on those that took advantage.

I agree with you, sounds like it was getting out of hand. Hopefully this will afford you more time to actually have a life. :)

Oh, Tanya. Pfft. Don’t be silly. You know that all us bloggers have nothing better to do with our time than moderate comments. :)

It’s a shame that people felt the need to abuse your generosity. Kudos to you for putting your foot down.

@Nicole (SAHM Reviews), Thank you so much for understanding! I have been sitting here for 2 hours moderating comments when I could be working. I thought I was being nice by making the offer, but it seems that people took too much advantage of it.
