Vtech MobiGo Touch Learning System (Closed)

When it comes to teaching my kids new things, I love it when I am able to teach them, but still allow them plenty of room to still have fun. I am so excited to share with you a product that we have been able to review far before the product is out to purchase: the MobiGo from VTech.

MobiGo Touch Learning System – Ages 3 to 8 years

Young learners mimic Mom and Dad with their very own touch-screen learning system. Major fun meets classic school skills to create the perfect edu-gaming experience.

  • Touch-screen: MobiGo’s touch-screen technology adds a modern twist to electronic learning games, so kids learn while mimicking the way parents use touch-screen devices.
  • Educational games: From fishing, coloring book pages, drawing and playing instruments, kids can discover a wide variety of fun and engaging learning games.
  • Learning skills: MobiGo teaches a wide range of skills including math, vocabulary, spelling, logic and categorization. The slide open QWERTY keyboard introduces older kids to text typing skills.
  • Portable: Handheld robust gaming console makes learning fun on the go for little hands and is equipped with headphone and AC adapter jacks.

MG thoughts

It was easy to set up, but to be  honest, we haven’t even used the USB connector yet; everything was set up on the slider keyboard and touch screen.

One we got here, I typed in Tucker’s name:

This is just one of the games that your little one can play with the VTech MobiGo. Tucker loves the drums.

It really is a fun game system and does work with him on his basic pre-k skills, but also work with his hand-eye coordination, color learning, numbers, and even sharing. Sharing? Yes, sharing. The kids share the MobiGo, so in my opinion, this game does help Tucker learn more sharing, as well as teaching his little sister how to use the MobiGo.

LIKES:

  • I love the touch screen and that there isn’t a pen involved. This helps when it comes to a child being left handed or right handed. While I don’t mind the additional pen on a string for the child to use, it makes it nice knowing that we won’t have to worry with replacing a lost pen on the unit.
  • I like that the MobiGo can be used with just the touch screen, or with the slider keyboard, depending on what game is being played. There are a lot that don’t even need the keyboard, but when the keyboard is needed, it’s so easy for the child to slide the top part up and use the keyboard.
  • On the bottom of the MobiGo, where the batteries go, there are gripper dots (I am not sure the technical term, so I made this up). When the child holds the MobiGo, the gripper dots help the child hold the MobiGo better.
  • The screen size is perfect. It’s not too small, yet it’s a great size for my child to see the screen and be able to interact with the game.

THOUGHTS ON IMPROVEMENT:

  • I wish there were preloaded games on the MobiGo. When you turn on the unit, without a cartridge installed, it asks you right away to insert a cartridge. I would love to see a couple of preloaded games installed.

There are a lot of games that your little one(s) can play with the MobiGo. They average around $20 each. I would love to see the case come with this automatically to help protect the main gaming system, but it is sold separately, so that’s nice. I have been wanting to get Tucker (he is almost 5) in to gaming so that he can start learning more coordination and learning skills, but have not been wanting to let him practice or play on an expensive portable gaming unit. The MobiGo works great!

Recommended Age: 3 – 7 years
