In April, I had the fabulous opportunity to visit Dublin, Ohio to check out the Wendy’s headquarters to find out what Wendy’s has coming up.
While we try not to eat out too terribly much, I do admit that we are on the go a lot and do find ourselves at a drive through. There are so many unhealthy things out there, so it was nice to see that Wendy’s was offering some new alternatives. You’d be surprised to know that there are over 50 million Americans that eat out which helps add to the fast food industry’s revenue. While I was at the Wendy’s Headquarters, I learned so much, including how they include registered dieticians in their every day protocol for new menu creations. This surprised me, but actually made me happy to know that they care enough about what people put in to their body’s and not just about making a buck. When you think about fast food, what do you think about? Greasy cheeseburgers? Dripping tacos?
What would you say if I were to tell you that your child is able to get a grilled chicken wrap with healthier alternatives like milk and sliced apples?
What if I told you that you were able to order a grilled chicken flatbread sandwich, made to order? I am a picky eater, but they also cater to folks like me. You can get it plain, or with all the greenery and goods on top. I like it plain.
Or… what if I were to tell you that you can order one of four new grilled chicken salads?
It’s true, fast food has officially changed in so many ways. Not only are they revamping the menu all together, they are showing you what all is in each meal with their new Wendy’s App that is available on iTunes or Google Play.
I am watching what I eat and a lot of us count calories, so this app is nice to have while on the go. Example: If you are counting calories and you want to know how many calories that something has, you can type it in and it will tell you. If you have so many calories left in the day and you want to plug that in, you can pull up what you ‘can’ have. So neat! I find myself watching closer what I order when I have this app opened.
Not only is Wendy’s focused on our intake and calories, but they care a lot about their employees as well. They have a fitness center inside their Dublin, OH location. If I worked there, it would be used to burn off calories from their new Frosty Cone.
While I was there, I was able to visit the actual test kitchen and meet some of their testers. This was so neat! If you haven’t been on a food panel before, it is one of the neatest things I’ve ever done.
I will admit that when I was told we were about to test their new grilled chicken flatbread sandwich, I was skeptical. I am a very picky eater…. like very picky. I had made a request before hand to make mine as plain as plain could get, and they were able to comply with that request. I was able to taste the flatbread itself, see what options were able to be ordered on it and taste the chicken in it’s entirety. While I have never ordered or had a flatbread sandwich before, I have to say that I really liked it. The chicken was fresh, the taste was very good and the flatbread didn’t taste like Styrofoam like I had expected.
After this experience, I will most defiantly order a flatbread sandwich in the future. Hard to believe that this sandwich is only 370 calories, and that’s with all the veggies and dressing on it.
I will have so much more information on my trip and what I learned, so be sure to check back!
Have you tried any of Wendy’s new items? What did you think?
