…. it sure makes it hard on other ‘legit’ contest entrants to have a fair chance at contests.
This was brought to my attention today, so I thought I would blog about it. Hey – it’s my blog, I can do what I want. I host a LOT of contests and I like to see everyone getting their fair chance.
I have an IP address that I am blocking from my website, along with all their ‘names’ and email addresses; all coming from the same IP address. This is wrong. Oh, so wrong. Not only is this person creating 6 random email addresses, but Twitter accounts as well. This isn’t only happening on MY blog, but on Jenna’s site as well. Shame. Shame. Shame!
Maybe it is a family that is entering? That could be a possibility, but for 8+ entries for one contest, coming from 6 email addresses? In my opinion – this isn’t right.

Haven’t these people ever heard……cheaters never prosper!? You know, we’re dealing with the masses….and it’s the really BIG masses on here……I’ve thought about it happening a few times & I’m sad…or should I say happy to say…I never thought of that! LOL It was bound to happen.I bet they never won anything…..and I HAVE! YEHH! Oh yes, what goes around, comes around…I’m old enough to have seen that happen several times & we get to sit back & watch…..because it will…..I’m sooo behind on my newsletters with my Mom having been in ICU. But I’m happy to say, she’s a strong 85 yr. old lady…..who never cheated at anything in her life. She told me she was happy with her life & had no regrets…..will these idiots be able to say that in the end? I think NOT! Good job on all you do..keep up the great work! I may get behind, but I enjoy all of your posts…whenever I get to them..LOL

I think that’s why alot of people don’t like to enter blog sweeps because it is very easy to cheat on them. When you add in all of the different ways to enter, many don’t want to waste their time. It also doesn’t help that every single blog has different rules about their sweeps. Many are afraid that blog owners are also “cheating” by not following any rules.

Many of us have different emails and twitter accounts, for differents blogs or purposes (I’m not PoorSanta all year …lol), but most people have the common decency to only use one of each account to enter blog contests. I guess things like this are inevitable, greed overtakes people.

Really doesn’t surprise me at all. As long as there have been contests and sweepstakes, there have been cheaters. I think you should post the person’s name(s) so that everyone could be on the look out. I have won some great prizes from sweeps and blog contests and I didn’t have to cheat. I would never even consider cheating since I believe in karma and what goes around comes around.

There is always one or two in a crowd that cheat. How can you live with yourself, cheater?

P.S. If it’s not too much of a hassle to do, I would appreciate it if you let the other Mom Blogs know about this because I enter giveaways on several blog sites! I’m probably up against this person on every giveaway I’ve entered. Whoever you are, I hope you’re reading this. Get correct or get lost!

I don’t know how to even do that…but I agree, it makes it hard for the rest of us to win, and, we’ve entered legitimately! Can’t you contact (email) this person and let him/her know the jig is up? Or, block them? I hope you do. No wonder I’m not winning any of your giveaways! LOL!!

Sounds like a lot of extra work for you for sure. I’d hate to think you would have to check every single comments IP address~!!! As they say it only take a few bad apples to ruin the whole bushel. I like the idea of having a board listing of those who are abusing and taking advantage by cheating. Maybe it will keep all those entering honest. Plus is it really about winning any how? I have learned more about new products in the past year that are available than I probably would have learned in 10yrs by reading blog reviews. The giveaways are a plus for sure but to me I also like learning about new web sites and products. Instead of me being the last to know about a new gadget I am now one of the first to know. How cool is that. Thank You for that. Take Care and have a Great Week

Wow. This pisses me off! I have always assumed that when people enter contests/giveaways they do it honestly. I know when I enter, I’m honest about it. I guess I’ll have to start checking to see what it’s like on my site. I wish there was a master list of be on the look out. KWIM?
[Reply]
No wonder I can never win!
Just kidding! Seriously, I can’t imagine how you must feel. You must go through a ton of work to do all the reviews and giveaways that you do. So for someone to be cheating, and creating even more work, must be really discouraging. I’m so sorry that you’re having to deal with this!
[Reply]
I don’t know how people live with themselves, I really don’t. I want to win as much as the next person, but I would NEVER EVER cheat! karma is a bitch….

How pathetic that there are those of us who cannot enter giveaways like the rest of us. Hmmmmmm, I wonder if the person cheating is the same one, I have had my doubts about. Their first name should at least be publicly displayed if not last to show others this will not be tolerated and their info will be forwarded to all the other blog owners so this person cant enter any of their giveaways. Lets be realistic here. If this person cheated on your blog, they are cheating on all the others. Some people just aren’t happy if they aren’t WINNING EVERYTHING. I sure would like to know who this is, just to see if its the same person I suspect. I sure hope all you blog owners get together and ban this person for good. It is not fair to the rest of us who only use one name and one email addy. We would like a chance to win too, but people like them have the odds in their favor of winning. Shame on you. What goes around, comes around.

That’s just rude imo, I enter contests all the time but I know it’s a privilege when I do – someone’s hard earned money and not to mention time went in to a contest. It’s just rude not to play fair!
[Reply]
Oh this is not good, thank goodness you picked up on the cheaters
[Reply]
I can’t believe this…and I thought the multiple…I entered all 50 of Tanya’s giveaways (with separate comments of course) was bad….this is so much worse…Thanks for the heads up….another thing I’ll have to do now since I don’t have enough! LOL!
[Reply]
These people just don’t get it do they? All my comments are going to moderated now so I can double-check things. I’m just glad I got the “itch” to check IPs today. What do ya know?
[Reply]
Some people just never grow up.
[Reply]
Wow that’s wrong. I don’t understand why someone would even go through ALL that trouble LOL smh
[Reply]
That’s definitely not cool. Greed is an awful thing. It would be tempting to ‘publicly shame’ those folks…..

I have 8 children and set up a home LAN years ago so they could do homework at the same time. Sharing an Internet connection this way gives us all the same IP Address, even though we’re on separate computers. We use a family subdomain, so have similar e-mail addresses too. So, as you say, this *could* happen with a family. I had to provide a family picture and explanation of our network setup once to a service using spare computing cycles and giving us points for that. But generally rules now limit entries based on IP address as well as physical address. And there wouldn’t be the same person’s picture on those multiple accounts for different people in a family.

[...] within names and e-mails, I know you’re the same person. Now it’s even better when a fellow blogger, see’s those same e-mails along with several other e-mails [...]
Wow. What kind of people do this? Not cool?

Tanya, this is crappy! If you get some time, I’d love some names to watch out for! Email me themomjen@gmail.com I thought I was on to something about a week ago on my site! Thanks!

I just don’t get it. Didn’t we all learn at a very young age that cheating is wrong? And it would take the fun out of winning anyway. I’m glad you and Jenna brought this to everyone’s attention, because it wouldn’t surprise me if you two aren’t the only one who’ve had this problem with contests. That’s such a bummer. It is kind of a shame that adults can’t keep themselves honest, that they have to be policed, IP addresses checked, etc. ~Susan
