When I found out I was an official Whirlpool Mom, I cannot begin to tell you how much I screamed in excitement. Let’s just say that I went from this:
Because I was one of the lucky 50 to receive the gorgeous Whirlpool Duet Washer & Dryer sets, I decided to do an entire basement makeover. These babies are too pretty to keep in separate dungy rooms as we have had for the 3 years that we have owned this 1900 home. We hired a plumber to come in and replace all our old galvanized pipes and move pipes around so that these two beauties could sit side by side.

About the Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washer & Dryer
For almost 100 years, Whirlpool has helped Moms clean load after load of laundry with innovative and efficient appliances that deliver powerful cleaning and make keeping up on the home front easier. Now, Whirlpool has launched the industry’s most resource-efficient laundry pair – the premium front-load Duet washer and dryer – which save as much as $3,300 in lifetime energy costs.
The washer uses as little as 11.5 gallons of water per load and exceeds the minimum federal standard for energy selling requirements by more than 160 percent, on average. Moreover, the washer’s EcoBoost™ option takes the guesswork out of efficiency by reducing the water temperature and increasing agitation duration to deliver the same results while using less water and energy. And, through Whirlpool brand’s exclusive 6th Sense technology, the pair includes a built-in suite of Laundry Apps with features like Stain Assist and Hints & Tips and an easy-to-fill liquid detergent reservoir, which can hold enough detergent for up to 36 loads in one fill.
What were my first thoughts?
Appearance & Use
The Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washer & Dryer are simply gorgeous to look at! My husband has always been the main laundry do’er in the house, but mainly because our old washer and dryer were in the basement, in different rooms and he would just put in a load when he came home from practice or work. Once we got the new Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washer & Dryer, I hired a plumber to come in and replace and move pipes so that they were side by side. They are pretty to look at and I was thrilled to get started taking the roll back of doing laundry.
We had thought about stacking the washer & dryer, but I really love the look and feature of having the pedestals. With the pedestals, I can store my detergent so it’s not out in the open, on top of the appliances or in a cabinet that’s hard to get to. With the pedestals, I LOVE how tall the washer and dryer are. It sure makes it easier on our backs so we don’t have to lean over so far to get the heavy wet clothes from the washer to put in to the dryer. We are waiting on the top piece to join the two together, but more on that later.
I absolutely love the Precision Dispense feature! This is a section, within a pull out drawer on the top of the washer that allows you to fill with detergent and literally forget about it until the washer tells you that you are running low. Why do I love this? Well, if I am in a time crunch, I don’t have to fiddle around to find the detergent, pour, close & start the wash. This holds enough detergent for up to 36 loads of laundry! The washer is a technical genius and tells you when it’s low and time to refill. How cool is that??
I will admit that when I first heard that I was going to be receiving the Whirlpool Duet Washer & Dryer, I was kind of scared. These only take HE designed detergents, and I was under the impression that HE detergents and fabric softener were very expensive when in all truth, it is far from over priced.
About using HE detergents
Only HE detergents should be used in a high-efficiency washer.
Why: High-efficiency front or top-loading washers are designed for low water level and a tumbling washing action. HE detergents are low sudsing and specially formulated to provide clean wash loads in these energy-saving washers. Use of any other kind of detergent in a high efficiency washer, not only can confuse your washer cycle but prevent it from washing or rinsing properly. HE detergents are comparable in price to other detergents. When you are out shopping for detergents, just look for the symbol. With our first time buying the HE detergent, I read the label and have found out first hand that I am using just about the same amount for detergent in my HE washer, but the savings are well worth it by my washer using less water each cycle. More soap does not mean cleaner clothes, when in turn more soap can harm your washer.
Most of the time, we use the normal/casual cycle if we have a light load of towels or clothes. For our sheets, pillow cases and blankets, I will use the Allergen cycle. I love having so many options! We have always had a hand-me-down washer, so the cycle that we are used to is ‘on’. We’ve never had a hand wash or delicate cycle, so this amazes me each time I go to do a load of clothes.
With the dryer, there are so many options as well. Most of the time, we will use the normal cycle, but I love LOVE having a separate cycle for towels, jeans and what truly impresses me is that I have a steam cycle! We just got this hooked up last week. Since we had plumbing re-done, this wasn’t available for us right off the start. I LOVE having the steam cycle for when hubby needs a shirt ironed for a game or a meeting. Instead of pulling out the iron, we put his shirt in the dryer, set it on steam and a tiny bit of water comes in to the dryer to get those wrinkles released.
I can honestly say that I love doing laundry now! With our home construction and basement remodeling, I now have my own office where our old washer once was, so while I am in my office getting some work done, I can easily put in a load of clothes to wash. I love doing laundry now! Have I said that yet?
