Hi everyone! This is Mommy Goggles’ husband here to report to you my initial experience with the Xbox Live. We have a series of posts coming up throughout the holiday season, and beyond. Our family wants to show you how an Xbox 360 can bring a family together for family night, as well as how an Xbox 360 is a great gift idea for him
and for just about anyone.

When we recieved the Xbox 360, the box included everything in it. Unpack and play. Literally. We had some trouble getting it set up online, but this was an issue with our router, so what we did was run a CatV cable under our floors from our TV/Xbox 360 Live, to where our main desk top is. This was about a 25 foot cable and very easy to hook up to the router. The Xbox 360 Live does run on WiFi, but be sure to check your router’s settings because not all routers have the same coding. I can say that the technical support for Xbox was very helpful in diagnosing our issues with getting online through the Xbox. We tried the solution they suggested (getting the cable and doing a direct hook up) and it works great!
The easy to read diagrams included within the packaging made installation of the console a very pleasant experience. Setting up the system with a user profile and connecting to XBOX Live was also very easy and enjoyable with the Avatar characters and easy to manage dashboards.
The Avatar characters are awesome! So much fun! There are so many choices of Avatar characters to choose from ranging from race, sex, and even down to what sunglasses you want on your character. We will create a video in an upcoming post on all the Avatar character options and how to set them up. It is a lot of fun!
The demos provided within the console is a great feature. This allowed me to begin my XBOX experience immediately as I was anxious to compare the graphics and effects to previously owned systems. Right away, I played Legos Star Wars. This is a game that I can see our whole family playing and a game that I am currently adding to our Christmas wish list. The animation is awesome!
The online experience is a great way for me to keep in touch with friends through the “Join a Party option.” A new experience for me is playing one person on line while talking to multiple gamers at the same time with the use of the headset. We really enjoy this option! Knowing that Tanya can play board games with her friend out of town, that we can play family game night with our family and that I can play the games I like online, or offline, is great! So many options!
The ability to download games, music, avatar characters, and even movies through the use of microsoft points adds a whole new dimension to a video game system. We are still going through this entire process of downloading new Avatar characters, as well as family fun games. Watch out for some new and fun videos and posts to come!
I have always preferred to play sports/recreation games but I would have to play against the computer. The ability to compete against another person at anytime, win or lose it’s an exciting and enjoyable experience for a competitive gamer. Recently I tried out a friends Madden ’10 football game and have been addcited to this. This, coming from a sports fan and football coach – I am in heaven!
My game preference is evolving into the family oriented games. Traditional board games and cards games are games all family members will enjoy with little or no gaming experience. I great opportunity for family generations to interact with each other on Holidays and family functions. We are currently exploring the Xbox games that are out there and available to download offline.
Be sure to keep checking back here for more family fun with the Xbox 360 Live! http://www.xbox.com/

We have xbox 360 in our home , I couldn’t agree with you more then the excitement it brings being able to stay in touch with friends and play online games with them! We have had our systems since they first came out , back then there was a lot of hoop la about them cause they were breaking down a lot ! The newer ones don’t seem to as much! Even though they tend me upset me a lot , I’m a gamer and that’s the end ! Can’t wait to see some more posts on this !
